TRICK RAT!!! Make sure to read chapter 1 BEFORE you read this. Shade managed to walk the ten miles to Tanis without incident. Cresting a hill a mile back he had a wonderful view of the great City. The city was large and sprawling. A good sized river meandered through it's center and the mid-day sun gleamed off the white washed stucco buildings. Shade used a rag to wipe the sweat off his brow. 'Death's bones it was hot in the south.' The air was thick and humid and seared like the summer back home, only it was only mid-spring here. His black ensemble wasn't helping matters. Further study of the city of Tanis showed that it had no outer wall or towers or even a keep. No fortifications at all. Maybe they were free of hostile forces this deep into the kingdom. Whatever the reason he liked it. Seeing no reason not to enter through the main gate he approached the city entrance and discovered an even bigger surprise. No guards. No soldiers or militia of any kind watching the gate. In fact the city entrance wasn't really a gate at all, just a twenty foot log mantle overhanging the road to form a rough portal. Sitting on a 3 legged stool at the left post was a board looking human fellow dressed in heavy wool robes the color of rubies. The young man, perhaps in his twenties was snapping his fingers together. Each time they clicked a small flame would appear out of thin air above his hand. He stopped as he saw Shade eying him. "Good day to you sir. Welcome to the Lumber city of Tanis. How may I direct you this day?"

"hello sir, why thank you. i am looking for 'Pickled Pig Inn' . might you know where that is?"
-after shade gets whatever info he can from this man as he starts to walk away he makes sure to be carful so no one can really notice what he is doing while he checks the book that Sithis gave him to write in to see if there were any updates in it.

It turns out that the Inn is on the other side of the river in the upper class section of Tanis.
Opening the book where none can see Shade notices a message has been scribed to him.
---Silencer, I pray to the Prince of Darkness that you have reached the city of Tanis by now. It seems you have created a small ruckus upon your leaving Garrotten. Assuming of course it was you whom stole the nobleman's horse. If so, make sure to rid yourself of the beast post haste. The noble is well known in the south and his brand may be easily identified. I'd hate to see your career cut short for a simple horse theft.
-May shadow hide you.

Shade ended up eating at the Great Horned Dragon Inn. The food was well prepared but, a bit expensive. It was worth it though for the merchant class that boarded here were lose lipped and full of gossip. Shade learned that the city was run by a large group of Fire and Air warlocks. They kept the peace and had even won a small war with some local druids who were trying to protect the forest from the logging guilds. Shade would have to be careful not to draw unwanted attention. Other then that there was rumors of an Ogre uprising to the north, bandits running unchecked on the roads and a slave revolt or two in nearby cities. On a more local front there was a gang of thugs calling themselves the Hippogriphs that were attacking merchants at night.

It took a couple hours to find the Pickled Pig Inn. While reportedly a wonderful Inn to stay at it was non-descript from the outside and difficult to find. Everytime Shade would ask for directions he would be told something vague like 'over that way' or 'up the road a bit more' only to discover that other people would send him in opposite directions. It was frustrating. He finally stumbled upon it almost by accident when he went to the river to relieve himself. The Inn was set on stilts out on the river proper and one had to walk a long pier to get to it. He would have turned around and walked back to the roads if it wasn't for a small sign with the Inns name on it at the front of the pier. Cursing the people of this city to grusome deaths he walked the pier and entered the establishment.
It was indeed well kept and was bathed in wealth. All the trappings from the polished stone floor to the fancy, artisticly sculpted chandeliers were top notched. It was still early evening so the Inn had few patrons at this time. A well dressed servent approached Shade. "May I be of service mi'lord?"

"Follow me sir." The servent winds his way through the Inn to an ornately carved wooden door. The servent turns to leave. "The Private function is in there sir."

shade first examines the room to get a feel for how they all seemed to feel toward him and then makes his way over to Joqueel. he says to him in a deeper wisper voice(calm)" what is this? what is it that is so important for the assassins from every guild to be in one place at the same time?"

"Well you are the last to arrive. Please, find a spot and I will inform you all."
Shade finds as out of the way place as he can and Joqueel begins. "I am Joqueel. You all should have recieved some kind of word to find me here. Who I work for is unimportant. What I have to say is. There is an Oracle by the name of Matteo. He has gained much popularity with the royal family and other nobles. He has announced that he will make a pilgrimage to the Pyramid of Osiris. Once there he will proclaim a vision that will uncover the identities and location of every assassin guild working in Timiro Kingdom. If there is any truth to this I'm sure you can all see the danger this means to your establishments. My employer wishes to hire all of you as representatives of your respective guilds to kill the Oracle."
At this a great comotion ensues. "I work alone.....Can't be true....all of us?...why?....not possible...."
"Silence please!" Joqueel raises his hands for emphasis. "I don't care how you do it. Work alone, or in groups. Just get the job done. Pay will go to him or her who kills him."

shade first walks up to Joqueel and in what is almost a wisper ask him "where can matteo befound? are there things we should know about him that could be dangerous to us? how much money are we talking about for the one that kills him?"
after getting whatever answers he can from Joqueel shade makes his way over to Zenephret to ask again in a wisper "might you be willing to work with eachother to better our chances of collecting?"
