Ok, this was another rule that buged me. According to the official rules; Characters with an MA (mental Affinity) of 16 or higher have a bonus to invoke Trust or to Intimidate someone. What I found odd was that races such as Gnomes, Humans and Kobalds have high MA scores and therefor better at these skills, while Dwarves, Orcs, Trolls, and Elves to name a few have rather poor MA scores.
Now I don't know about you all but, I think Trust and intimidation should be sepperate from eachother. I for one would not be very intimidated of an Elf or Gnome and be intimitaded as hell by an Orc or Troll. According to the rules though the opposite is true.
So I made up the following rules;
An MA of 16 or higher still allows the character to recieve the book stated % to invoke trust. Intimidation however is invoked by an MA of 8 or less as shown below. The lower the MA the better chance of intimidation.
*NOTE OK, I've tried all sorts of charts and none are working to my satisfaction, So after consideration and to completly contradict what I posted above the FOLLOWING will be used and here is why. Breaking up Trust and intimidation was an error on my part. While I was thinking that an orc should invoke Intimidation and an Elf should invike trust I was thinking in a Physical form. An Orc LOOKS intimidating and an ELF looks trusting, however MA is MENTAL Affinity not PHYSICAL Affinity so in a nut shell it is what the Orc or Elf says and does that ivokes Either trust and intimidation not their looks. So the penalties for having an MA of 8 or less will make it easier for others to invoke trust or intimidate you. The % #'s below will be ADDED to another characters trust/intimidation % while attempting to influence that character.
MA: 8 +5%
MA: 7 +10%
MA: 6 +15%
MA: 5 +20%
MA: 4 +25%
MA: 3 +30%
MA: 2 +35%
MA: 1 +40%
EXample: Bob a player has an MA of 16 has a Trust/Intimidation factor of 40%. Bob attempts to intimidate three people into digging a hole. He yells, screams, threatens with bodily harm. Alaina has an MA of 12 so Bob has a 40% chance to Intimidate her. Jack has an MA of 19. While Jack is good at intimidating others as well he still has a 40% chance of being intimidated by Bob. Mike has an MA of 4. This gives him a penalty of +25%. So Bob has a 65% chance to Intimidate Mike into digging that hole.
Please keep in mind that NO % in Palladium is ever higher then 98%. There is always a 2% chance of failure/success.
Please note that anyone with LESS the a 16 MA may NOT attempt to invoke trust or intimidate another. They will have to roleplay it and hope the GM gives in.
