"Oh I don't mind trying at all. It sounds exciting." replied Mosh. Thagin looked reluctent but, scratched his beard in thought and replied, "If you can make a raft or something stable for me I'll go. You may have to lash me to whatever you come up with though so I don't fall off. My arms arn't as long as yours elf!" He was obviously agitated but, not unreasonably for a dwarf. Talon had heard that seeing a dwarf swim was as rare as seeing a pig fly.

"My friends, while I appreciate your willingness to brave the water, and to support me on this, perhaps such a risky venture is not the safe choice. I would rather wait for your trust and support when my life may be on the line! Let us head towards the ferry. Mosh, please ready the chains, and Thagin, perhaps you should carry them so that you may put them on at a moment's warning. Remember to play the role whenever we are in the presence of others."
Talon readied his belongings, and called for Krieger. After some calling, she emerged from the edge of the woods with a full crop and a bit of feathers still on her beak.
"Well, I guess that saves us some work of hunting today. Are we ready?"

Following the river the group came across a Ferry. The prices seemed exuberant however and run by rather unseemly individuals. Lucky for the elf and his friends a local fellow told them of another ferry further up the river. He insisted that the dwarf who ran it was a fair fellow.

"Perhaps we should move up river. Mosh, when we near, I would like you to make contact and inquire 'if passage is available'. Thagin, should we have any reason to be concerned about a Dwarf running a ferry? We will keep your shackles close, if Mosh feels any reason to be concerned either way, we will adjust our course accordingly. Let us head up river."

Thagin tugs on his beard in thought for a bit. "No. No I don't think so. We dwarf's will on occasion take slaves but not other dwarves and certainly not a halfling, well unless they make a good brew. Ferrying is an odd trade for a dwarf though. We sink like stones you know."

"Very well Thagin, we will trust your experience. Hide the shackles. Again, Mosh you make contact for us, we shall remain out of sight. Inquire for 3 passengers, and by all means, use that charm that you seem to glow with once in a while!"
Talon led the three close enough to see the ferry landing, but remain out of sight.
"Work some magic Mosh"
Talon thought to himself 'The only thing better than a charming halfling, is maybe a charming elf.... NO! TWO charming elves! OOOOOO! TWIN CHARMING ELVES! and maybe one has an estranged human love.......
"Keep your mind on the task" Talon told himself....

Mosh leaves her companions and makes her way to the ferry. At this distance the good elf can see that the dwarf is not alone. Sitting passively on the ferry that is tethered from one side of the river to the other by a rope bridge are two hulking brutes that could only be ogres. The ferry master waves at the halfling as she approaches and they engage in conversation. After a few moments she curtsies and heads back to her companions. Talon can hear the dwarf bellow orders to the hulking brutes and they begin to stand and take hold of the rope line. Mosh returns smiling. "Only be a gold a piece to cross." she told them. "Hrmmh." Thagin grunted. Good price. He could get five times that if he wanted to. No business sense that one.

"Excellent job Mosh! Thagin, perhaps its best for you to, well, act 'simple'. I don't know much about dwarves, but I know they like gold. Something does not seem right, but who am I to argue such a price. Let us get to the other side of the river and get this journey started!"
Talon hands Mosh a gold piece, and gestures them both forward, staying several paces behind the both of them.

Thagin responds with his usual grunt but, walks ahead with Mosh. As the three near the ferry barge the dwarven ferry master waves to them in greating. "These are the two I was telling you about." Mosh called.
"Welcome to the 'Farr' ferry crossing Lords and Lady. as I told the kind lady here it will be a gold piece each for the crossing"

"I have the coin." replied talon, and handed Mosh the extra coin. Hopefully Mosh would catch on, and understand that she was to keep the 'lead' as it were. Talon kept an eye on Thagin in case he showed any sign of uneasyness or concern.

The dwarf took the payment with a smile. "Well hop on board then!" turning around he steps onto the wooden platform that was little more then a sturdy raft. "Alright boys! Get to work if you want dinner!" He bellowed. Turning to face his passengers again after the raft began to move along the line by pulleys powered by the ogres massive muscles he continued the conversation. "So where you headed? Don't get to many people headed north. Most of my business comes from the other side of the river. Not that I mind."

"I'm hoping to see some of the countryside that my halfling friend here has told me about." Talon said casually but before others could speak. "I don't know much more of it than she has described, what can we look forward to master dwarf?"

"Ha! Danger mostly. Orcs, Ogres, bandits, robbers, wild animals. If you head North Long enough you'll end up in the old kingdom. Now that is some rough terrain. I suppose if you stay close to the river or the outpost you'll be safe enough."

"What is the old kingdom exactly? I am afraid I don't know much of this side of the world. And what type of outpost are you speaking of exactly?"

The ferry-dwarf rolled his eyes. "You don't know about the Old Kingdom? Well...I guess you are a wood elf. I just figured even your cloistered people studied history." He pulled a pipe and a pinch of tobacco out of a small pouch. After a short ritual he had it lit and took a long drag before continuing.
"It was thousands of years ago when all the elves were just one people. Back when dwarf and elf were great friends. Back then the Old kingdom was our homelands. Our people lived in harmony for many years. I won't go into details on who started the Eldar war, but it ended badly for everyone. The land had become uninhabitable. Chaotic waves of pure magic swept the country side mutating everything they touched. Dwarf and elf alike were forced to leave our once great cities. Most of my kind decided to live with the humans while a few others tried to build Kharns (dwarven mountain cities) elsewhere. Your people became divided. Some stayed as they always were calling themselves High elves while those that chose to live underground became the Drow. Your people believed life would be better spent in a more simple way and returned to the great forests and it is rumored that yet others still took to the sea and far away lands. The humans call them sea elves. The old kingdom holds ruins of our great cities and is now home to green skins and Ogres and even giants. Some of our kind has moved back in an attempt to reclaim our lost civilizations. I think it's pure folly."
Thagin stiffened up at this last part, but lucky for Talon the ferry had reached the other side.
"Well folks. Your journey with me ends here it seems. The Outpost I spoke of is to the east of here. It's a human watchtower garrisoned by all manner of mercenaries. More trouble then they are worth if you ask me."
