In the deadest hour of the night, between 2:30 and 3:30am, the town of Garrotten was a quiet town indeed, thought Shade. Only the occational laugh of a tavern wench or footsteps of the night watch patrols could be heard. Shade was told that Garrotten was a town booming with growth do to an iron mine that was recently discovered to have veins of gold as well. Prospectors from all across Timiro and beyond came to Garrotten to strike it rich. The Kell K'un Assassins Guild was new to the area. So new that Shade was to be it's first 'Silencer' in all of the Timiro Kingdom. This very night he was to meet his handler. The negotiator and contract bidder sent ahead to find worthy contracts for all Silencers to fullfill on the Guilds behalf. It was an honor for Shade. No more mentors shadowing him on mission after mission. No more political dealings to manuver ones way up the ladder in the guild. Ahh, freedom. Just him and the contract. Well...and the handler or Listener as they prefered.
Shade's mind stoped wandering and snapped back to his surroundings with leathal intensity. His hand had drawn a dagger by instinct alone for he did not remember pulling it. Just ahead and to the west by an old stump of a tree was a man in the shadows. Looking right at Shade. Shade walked slowly over to the mysterious fellow. This was either his handler or a soon to be dead man. It didn't really matter to Shade. When he had approached to within ten feet of the stranger he pasued and waited. His hunch was correct.
"I am Sithis the Listener, young one." the man, a human, spoke in a low, deep, gravely voice. "What shall I call you Silencer?"

"Excellent. Now if you don't mind I shall skip the small talk till next we meet. I have a very important mission for you, but first things first." Sithis reaches into his black robe slowly and pulls out two small, black, leatherbound books and hands one to Shade. "In the future this is how we will communicate." Sithis continues. Shade flips through the book only to find the pages empty. "What I write in mine shows up in yours and vice versa. Check it daily and give me progress reports whenever possible." Sithis doesn't give Shade a chance to let that sink in before he continues. "Here is a map of Timiro Kingdom. Considering you are new to this area I thought it may help you. You must leave immediatly for your first assignment. Normally I would have details but, this contract comes from a higher authority. You are to travel South to the City of Tanis. Once there find the 'Pickled Pig Inn' and ask for Joqueel after sundown 2 days from now. It is a 4 day walk. May darkness hide you." With that Sithis the Listener turns his back on Shade and fades into the night. ooc: go to ooc thread and ask any questions you want.)

Shade scouted out the town for a good horse and some food. The food was easy enough. The local Inn provided a few days worth of traveler's beef and bread for the trip. The Inn also had a stable where the assassin may just be able to accuire a mount. He'd have to hurry though. It would be light soon.

No one is really up yet except those inside the Inn. The court yard is empty. Shade wastes no time prowling over to the Stable. Lucky for him the bar is down so he doesn't have to work the lock. Entering the stables reveals an average stable and everything one would expect to find. Hay, tac, tool for shoeing and grooming, oats, shit and flies. There is a lantern hanging from a peg but, it has been dimmed. Probably so the youth curled up on a pile of hay can sleep. Making sure not to wake the young lad Shade begins inspecting the horses. He finds a huge warhorse, two swaybacked work horses and a couple riding horses. Both riding horses are chestnuts in color. Shade knew as much as anyone about horses, meaning not a lot. He could ride them and brush them and he knew how to feed them but, the art of telling how old one was or if one was hardier then another was a little beyond him at this point. His studies focused on other matters. Such as what two ribs to slip a dagger between or what poison was untraceable in wine.
Shade sighed. Guess he'd just pick one at random. He was running out of time. These country bumpkin types always seemed to get out of bed at the asscrack of dawn.

Shade rode hard. He didn't want to miss the meeting at any cost. The cost proved to be the horses life as it's heart exploded ten miles outside of Tanis from over excursion. "Ahh well. Easy come easy go. Besides, it wasn't like it was his horse." he thought mischievously. "It served it's purpose." The assassin walked the rest of the way into the
