"All I'm saying is that if this works at all, I don't know how long it will last. Then we will need to get this beast to a spot where we could butcher it. If the potion doesn't work, well, we'll need to come up with something else. Maybe we should send the boy to fetch Gaul and Lady Siff?"

Reeks smiled. "Works for me. I just like to have a plan."
Reeks proped the horses head up at an angle and Firebug poured it down its gullet. A full minite passed before the body twitched and shrank down to the size of a toy. Firebug had a six inch horse in the palm of his hand.
"Where to?" Reeks asked. The Stable boy was laughing in wonderment.
"To the statues at the Castle mount. We can enter the tunnels there and slaughter this fella when it returns to normal."
The two hurried with Firebug holding the dead diminuative horse out to his side incase it suddenly returned to normal size. The last thing he wanted was to be crushed by holding it to close. They made it to the statues in just under two minutes. It took Reeks another four to figure out how to open the statues hidden entrance. Finally finding the release a trap door opened up revealing the small iron stairs below.
"Better toss it down just in case. Best not to get stuck on that stair way." Reeks huffed.

Firebug dropped the diminutive horse down the hole, then began to follow it down but paused for a moment, "Reeks, send the stable boy to fetch Gaul and Lady Siff. You and I should start cutting this thing up as soon as the potion wears off. We can then get things set up down here by the time Silverbeard finds his way here." With that Firebug decended into the darkness. He "willed" himself to see in the darkness and as his feet touched the ground again he looked around to make sure he was alone.
With a hand on his chest, Firebug felt the idle which around his neck and caressed it absent-mindedly as he looked for the horse.

Reeks turned to leave and then thought of something. "Hey Mystic!" he called down. If you find that horse before it grows, cut it up now! Much less grizzly job at this point I should think. Just rip its legs off or something."
Firebug could have slapped himself for not thinking of it. It would be like dissecting a mouse at this point instead of having to hack through a full sized horse. Brilliant. Reeks just earned his pay. Now to find that horse. It didn't take long. Just at the base of the steps. Figuring this was as good a spot as any the Psi-Mystic pulled out his knife and began cutting the horse away from the staircase. Reeks returned a few minutes later but the work was already done. Setting the horse parts on the ground the two companions waited for the effects to ware off. It took a total of about ten minutes from the time it took effect. On the ground before them were the head, four leg shanks and three large sections of the torso all neatly arrayed on the ground.
"Any piece better then another you think? Or were we planning on leaving multiple baits?" Reeks asked

"Well, I was planning to leave a few baits scattered around. I was also thinking that if we find this troll that Gaul might "bring" him a meal. Since Gaul looks like someone from his own army, he might get the troll to bite into the tainted meat. Think we could get that to work?"

"Sure, and if we're real lucky he may even eat Gaul." Reeks chuckled morbidly. Another ten minutes past before Siff and Gaul arrived.
"We all set then?" Siff asked. "What's the plan then? Head into the mines from this end and lay some traps?"
"How hungry dwarf find us? We leave him behind?" Gaul added.

Firebug stomped his foot, "damn, I almost forgot about him. Thanks Gaul." Firebug explained his idea about dipping sewing needles into the poison then inserting them into the meat from the inside, so that the poisoned end was pointing outward but was still under the skin. "Try to work them all the way around so that anywhere that the troll might bite down he'll find a pin or two in his mouth. Try to be careful and leave some for arrows. While you three get started on that, I'll find Silverbeard."

Firebug found Silverbeard almost where he left him. He was at a different table talking up a couple dwarf miners with an ale in his hand.

"Master Silverbeard, there are. If you gentlemen will please excuse us the rest of the group awaits your presence in the tunnels." Turning to the miners, "you lads work for Master Halfhelm, yes? I have a letter from him that will need to be heeded. There is a troll loose in a series of tunnels under the city that connect with your mines. As a safety measure I have convinced Master Halfhelm to keep you lads out of harms' way until the troll can be found. Could one of you please take this letter back to the mine so that no one should be hurt should they stumble onto the beast?"

"Go bugger yourself! We just got off lad. We ain't goin' back till sun up." The left handed dwarf barked then downed his tankard.
Lucky for Firebug the second was a little less drunk. Though his accent was thick with ale. "Eh? Don't be bitin' 'is 'ead off Ungor. 'e be gettin' rid of dat troll 'e is. Damn troll gun an took Roombor jus' yester-morn rememba'? 'alf 'elm's fam' not commin' fer another few suns ta 'elp." the inebriated dwarf looked into the mystics eyes. "I'll be takin' yer message ter the mine Lad. 'and it over will yee? Or tis it to be verbal?"

Firebug handed the dwarf the scroll which Halfhelm had penned, "thank you for your help sir. We will rid the mines of that troll. Silverbeard are you ready to leave?"
So the troll had already reached the mine. Firebug thought that following its most likely avenue into the mines would be the most logical action. However, trolls are terrible clever and this one most of all. There might be traps awaiting them. However, if they closed up the mine, even if the troll surfaced in the mine entrance he would be unable to escape. Firebug estimated that given the rate of travel and the time being isolated, this beast should be half starved and therefore twice as aggressive.

The party regrouped in the tunnels and began the journey toward the mines. No one took the lead at first because everyone with the exception of Gaul and Silverbeard had been down here before. As the party marched through the tunnels and store rooms evidence that Halfhelm's dwarves were hard at work converting the area into a sewer system were evident. Pipe, and stone blocks lay in neat piles everywhere waiting for teams of dwarven engineers to put them to good use. The forge room was completely gutted. Not a single stone remained of the mammoth forge and hearth. The group continued up the long passage that Firebug almost died of exhaustion from running. It went on and on without a single turn until it spilled out into the mine proper. The chamber was a hub of some sort. Rail tracks lead off in no less then six different directions. The ceiling was so high it escaped the range of the torch light. It was as quiet as a ghost.
"This is where you earn your pay cousin." Reeks commented in a hushed voice to Silverbeard. Siff hugged her shield to her for protection, but dutifully held aloft the torch for the group though truth be told she was the only one who needed it. Gaul fiddled with a dagger while Reeks swung his hammer lazily to loosen his muscles. The whole group seemed on ede as if the Troll would spring from one of the holes at any minute. Only Silverbeard seemed calm.
