"I had heard some rumors that this was a comfy place to settle for a while and I was wondering if I could join all of you lovely gentlemen and possibly lend a helping a hand in making it more comfy for all of us. I don't want to be treading over anyone elses waters and I was told I was to talk to Goodheart if I was going to keep from offending anybody." Lilien simply replied.

"Smart Lady. You came to the right place." Wottle and Lilien left it at that until Goodheart arrived.
Goodheart made an appearance shortly after but, he wasn't alone. Maybe he was the paranoid type or maybe it was a show of force and power. Whatever the reason, he seemed to be bringing in the whole Guild for this little meeting. His entourage was over a dozen strong. Pretty boy Loots was in the back, arms folded, propping himself against the wall at the base of the stairs. The rest were a mix of elves, dwarfs, humans, a couple of halflings and even another gnome. Mostly men but, there were a few women as well. That was a relief. Lilien could think of more then one town that didn't welcome Lady thieves. Mens clubs they were called. No. This seemed like a proper mix for a Guild. She could do well with this bunch if she could convince Goodheart that is. The group for the most part took seats around the tables and turned chairs to face Lilien. A few besides Loots continued to stand. She also noted that they were all big as trees. Enforcers no doubt.
Goodheart it seemed was a Halfling. At four feet tall he was tall for his kind and twice Lilien's hight. He must be a tall fellow then. He was handsome she supposed if you liked chubby looking chaps. He had curly, brunette hair, ice blue eyes and a radiant smile of perfect teeth. He was dressed in a royal blue silk shirt under a black livery. His billowy, pantaloons were black as well with a yellow pin stripe down the sides. Like all halflings his feet were bare, but well manicured and groomed. His hands had no less then three rings each and he wore a thin mithril chain around his neck as well as a small, matching hoop in his left ear. He stood as well, leaning to one side on an ornate, black, lacquered walking stick.
"Well Wottle, what have you gleamed from our visitor then?" Goodheart inquired in a quiet voice as smooth as his shirt.
Wottle restated the story Lilien had told him just minutes before.
"So, you wish to join my Guild do you little thief?" The halfling restated in a matter of factualy tone.
Lilien didn't see the point in wasting words and just nodded an affirmative.
"Well I respect the fact that you took the time to find me instead of forcing me to find you. That shows common sense that some of my fellows lack I'm afraid." The halflings eyes darted so quickly to the left were the other two halflings sat as to appear imperceivable except to Lilien who was only a few feet in front of him. "Let me give you the run down. To prove yourself to me I will give you a task. When that task is completed you will officially be a 'footpad' in my Guild. From then on you may do as you wish. Any valuables gained from your time here in Garrotten will be subject to a 25% fee payed to me. Anything needing to be liquidated will be handled by someone in town that I trust. We'll introduce you to him later. The Guild will have odd jobs for you from time to time if we feel your up to it. We have few rules here. Do not take from a Guild member, do not sell to non-Guild members, do not rat out another Guild member and never kill while on official Guild business. We're thieves, not assassins. If you have questions now is the time."

"No questions, except, what is the task?" Lilien said smoothly. This was a comfortable place indeed. 25% was not too much and killing wasn't her thing anyway, unless of course, in self defense.

"A simple errand to be sure. You won't even have to steal anything most likely. I'm sure your skills speak for themselves anyway. No, what I really need is someone with communication skills and a good head on their shoulders. So far you seem to have promise. We'll see." Goodheart pointed at Lilien with his cane for emphasis before continuing.
"It just so happens that there is another new face in town. A thief named Silk who thinks she can free lance without asking me first. You see, she was not smart like you and has already done a job that netted her a fair some of gold. I am deeply offended and I would like you to straighten this out for me. By my reckoning Silk owes me 50 crowns. I don't care how you get it but, I want my gold and I want her run out of town as well. Unless of course you can convince her to come and grovel before me for permission to join the Guild. Oooh that would be lovely."
"Where?" was all Lilien could say in a deadpan voice. Her mind reeled at the task before her but, she always kept a cool exterior to ensure the wolves wouldn't pounce.
"Kole." Goodheart commanded in his ever soft tone.
A skinny, gangly human who was a good six feet in hight quickly stood from his chair and approached. He wore only a simple, hooded, black robe and leather belt that held a sheathed dagger. His boots were soft looking lamb skin and well tailored. You could always mark a good thief by his shoes. Looking to Goodheart first he turned to Lilien before speaking.
"You'll find her during the day at the hiring Hall. She's a dark elf with silver hair. We believe she may just be passing through and looking for work leading out of town. At night she keeps to the Travelers Inn. I would look either to the South of the fireplace in the main tap room or her bunk. Up stairs, second door on the right." Kole moved away and sat back down.
"I want her out of town or at my feet this time tomorrow. Got it?" Goodheart's smile was wide and feral.

"Got it. That sounds simple enough." Lilien said with pretend confidence while thinking to herself,{How in the hell, do I sound that charismatic to this crazy man and if not he expects me to spook her?!!!!! HA!} "Yeah, that surely sounds simple enough." she restated.

Lucky for Lilien she was not expected to leave the way she came in. She was taken up stairs which turned out to be a home in the middle of town. Outside she was given back her weapons by Wottle while the dreamy, mysterious Loots stood at the door arms crossed overlooking th exchange. "If I was you Missy I'd confront that dark elf while she's at the Hiring hall. Plenty of wittinesses if she tries to knife you. Up to you though I suppose." Wottle commented, sounding for all the world like his voice box had stones rattling around in it. "Both the Hiring Hall and the Traveler's Inn are up the next road down just past the castle mount. Can't miss them."

"Thanks." Lilien stated flatly. Then, she thought to herself, Guess I am off to the Hiring Hall to see what's what. Lilien wanted to get this particular task over as quickly as possible, as confident as she is, she knows that she doesn't spook people as much as she pretends to think she does. After all she is only 2ft. tall. And it does not help that she also prefers to work alone.
Lilien decides her best and most safe option is to try, and I do mean try, to befriend the dark elf, in the best way a thief can befriend another thief, hehehehehe. At worst she'll make the elf angry and then have to steal the money for Goodheart, which would make the elf even more angry , but then of course, Lilien almost always had a trick or two or even more up her sleeve. But it would be safest to try to befriend the dark elf most definitely.
With that all figured, or so she thinks, Lilien was on her way to the hiring hall.

Finding the Hiring Hall was easy. The long building was right across from the Inn just as she was told. Lilien stepped within to see all manner of persons mulling about. Warriors, wizards, warlocks, clergy and adventurers were all sitting, standing or talking business with potential clients. The little gnome saw a few merchants, farmers, peasants and vagabonds as well trying to get any work available. In one corner she even glimpsed what looked like a whole circus troop including knife throwers and actors. One could truly find anyone for any job they needed here in Garrotten.
With all the commotion and hub-bub Lilien had to be careful not to get tread upon. Nimble as a cat she darted this way and that, zigging and zagging her way around big people looking for any sign of this dark elf. It was a little more challenging then she expected. She hadn't realized how many ebony skinned humans there were in this part of the world. Lucky for her though they tended not to have silver hair. Her quarry was found sitting in a relaxed pose in a very comfortable looking (if warn and faded) high-backed, upholstered, red chair. The elf seemed to sense her eyes upon her and gave the gnome an ear splitting grin of perfect, white teeth.
"What may Silk do for you little sister? Looking for a traveling companion or personal guard perhaps?"
The dark Elf was pretty, but not stunning like some elves Lilien had met. She guessed the elf was about as good looking as she, herself was. The silky, silver hair hung down to her waist while her smallish blue eyes shown like sapphires. She had a lithe, athletic build and wore soft leather armor dyed black as night. Her hands were covered in lamb skin gloves of the same color and her boots were well tailored and high quality, knee high, soft leather. Lilien detected two daggers, one on hip the other in a boot. A short sword and scabbard lay next to the chair well guarded by her body posture.

After much pondering, Lilien decided to open this up in the only way she really and truly new how, blunt with pizazz. The worse that could happen was the elf would kill her, OOPS!, then there was the fact the elf would probably laugh at her, SO WHAT! Or everything would be ok, the elf would heed her words and agree, GREAT, but YEAH RIGHT! Anyways, despite the fact that her nerves were shaking in every being of herself, and she felt probably more intimidated than she has ever felt in her life. Well....here goes. She gave her most innocent and sweet smile yet and gathered up every ounce of charisma she had, and prayed that she could deliver this as positively as possible. and.................
"Although having a personal bodyguard sounds interesting especially for someone as teeny tiny as little 'ol me, we might be able to ponder that later, too. I do usually work alone."
"I heard on the fly that you might me someone interesting to talk to, considering that you are new in town, just like me!!!"
"But unlike me, you didn't fully follow the rules of being "new" in town."
"Basically, what I am trying to say, is, someone who rules te roost is not happy with something you took. This person doesn't mind if you keep what you took just as long as you pay your share. Which is calculated at about 50 crowns." Lilien smiled real big. "You know, not much. And with that you'll need to comply with this person in order to keep residing here in the means that you are. Or, if it makes you feel any better, you can go somewhere else and break their rules."
"I don't know about you but personally, I don't want to get myself killed." Unfortunately, she half-choked on that last couple of words. Man, that was a mouth full, and she was glad to get it out, but she cringed at what she might have done. But, it was better to just throw it out there than to beat around the bush that probably didn't exist, because this lady probably wasn't going to trust her very well at any point anyway.

The elf seemed to ponder Lilien's words for a bit. To Lilien it looked like she was mulling over the implications. Her features would go back and forth between worry and smirking. Finally in a deliberatly clear, slow voice Silk responded. Lilien could also detect an undertone of bemusement behind the words.
"I wasn't aware this roost had a ruler. I'd never intentionally take eggs that were already spoken for. I was looking for a place to set up a henhouse of my own but, with what you just told me I'm undecided if this is the place for me. Being new yourself...what's your impression of this person? Should I give the eggs I have left, back or fly to a different roost?

Lilien was actually quite surprised that wasn't finding herself dead or running for her life. COOL!! she thought. Then answered
"It seems like a pretty cool place to hang, I haven't got much out of it since he sent me on a mission to you, but if you want to blaze that's cool, too. If you cooperate while you are here, though, I am pretty sure he wont give you a tough break. He didn't seem like the (she changed her voice to sound as gruff as she could) 'Kill, kill, she took my stuff do kill!' kind of guy."
"If you do chose to blaze, can I hang though? You seem like the type of girl that it would be great to stay on her goodside. Plus, me being so small, makes it easy for me to slip in and out of most any situation, hehe."
Ok Lilien, quit rambling, she thought to herself.

Silk smiled and leaned forward in her chair to the point of being eye to eye with Lilien and spoke in a more hushed tone that wouldn't travel in the chaos of the Hall.
"Tell you what little sister. I had a little trouble down south. Seems me being an elf is alright and my skin is as black as the locals down there but, put those two things together and all people can think about is how evil my kind are. Anyway as it happens I may have picked up a bounty or two on my head. Now yesterday while scoping out this town for prospects I noticed a Red Rider trot into the Constables office. I may be paranoid but, I think my pretty face may be acting as art work on the Constables wall right about now. As you can imagine, this town ain't exactly crawling with Drow so I need to make sure I ain't been made before I decide to stick around. I can't exactly waltz in there and look for myself so, I'll make you a deal. You head over to the Constables office and see if there is a wanted poster of me in there. If there is and it looks like its been looked over or prominently displayed you and I can blaze on out of here tonight. If it looks like I'm in the clear with the law for now then I'll give your man his dues and stay awhile. Heck I'll even pay you to rip down any posters of me you may see just to give me an edge in evading the Constables. What do you say?"

Lilien actually felt excited. Too a point anyway. "Hell, that sounds like more fun, sure, I could do that for you no problem."

Silk reached out and hugged Lilien. "Thank you little Sister. I'll be waiting in my room at the Inn, up stairs, second door on the right." when Silk released Lilien she was grinning warmly.

Lilien wasn't sure what to make of the hug. She didn't have much, after all she has been quite busy doing everything but theiving since she got here, but she still decided to check her pockets and so on and so forth. Silk was after all a fellow thief and, despite the friendly and warm proposals, not to be trusted until further notrice.
Anyways, she decided to get the little side job done for Silk asap, simply because she was only given a day to get the Silk thing taken care of and Silk specifically stated that she would make her decision after she knew whether or not she was in the clear of the Constables office.
All and all, Lilien was just really happy that the worst for worst killing her choice didn't happen. She headed over to the Constables office.
