Wait a Minute!!! That Daggone Elf! During all that thinking that Lilien was doing she was patting her pockets and sifting through hidden clothing spots and discovered she was missing something, Her money pouch!!!!! Now what?! How far had the elf gotten? Should she go after her and see what happens? Well, obviously the whole constable story must have been a trick. Silk had no intentions of making a decision. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! Lilien was so mad she could just... just ... just.......well, she didn't quite know what she could just do, but she dicided to start, she was going to attempt to follow or track or find Silk in the best manner what would keep her head on her shoulders as possible.

Lilien was just to new in town to figure out where the dark elf would go. She'd just have to go to the Inn and see if she could catch her there.
Lilien jogged across the street to the Travelers Inn. It was a large establishment surrounded by a walled in court yard that could be gated closed for whatever reason. Heading past a couple out buildings and stables she entered the Inns main room. It was packed. The air was stifling hot do to the oppressive heat wave that had come early this year. Humans, dwarfs, elves and even halflings mingled together everywhere. Dodging left and right, not even bothering to waste her breath on people who wouldn't notice her till they stumbled on her the gnome headed for the stairs on the other side of the room. In a remarkable show of nimbleness the little thief made it to the stairs without injury. Taking the steps two at a time (amazing to watch to anyone paying attention) she reached the second floor and made straight for the door told to be Silks.

As she made her way to the door Lilien was attempting to think of the many (or not so many) possible things she could do. Frst once at the door she was definitely as quietly as she could attempt to detect any traps that Silk may have left for unwanted guests. Then after that she was going to have to make the decision of whether or not knocking was agood idea. I mean, who is to say the elf is not going to flee the building, if she had even come here in the first place, at the sound of the slightest knock. Then her other option could be to just attempt to pick the lock, assuming the door is locked. But then again, Silk is a much more skilled theif then her and being an elf she has to have a much higher hearing range, so Lilien was definitely going to have to do so very, very , very quietly, if possible. And at that point if the elf did hear her, she could just wait at the other side of the door ready to kill anyone or anything that might come through.
Oh, the choices, Hmmmmmm.........Well, now she was there and she had to at least attempt to detect any surprises that might be arounded the door for any unwanted guests.

Lilien spent a few minutes feeling and checking the door for surprises. It wasn't until she slipped her dagger between the door and the frame that she found what she was looking for. The door was locked so she expected a catch but, she also discovered a taught cord as well. Whatever it was for was most likely unpleasant and would be activated when the door was unlocked and opened. Lilien's diminutive stature made her less likely to be affected by most common traps as they tended to launch, fling, shoot, stab, toss ,swing or fire something at chest height for an average human. Being 2 feet tall did have advantages. So the question was did she cut the cord and spring the trap harmlessly but, alert Silk to her presence (assuming she was even in there) or unlock the door and hope Silk's trap would miss her?

Little miss daring decided not to give it much more thought. She had already spent too much time second guessing herself and over thinking. She was just going to have to take the chance to and unlock the door and hope either the trap was set the way she assumed or she could jump out of the way of whatever it sprung fast enough. Either way she still had to figure out what she was going to do or say if Silk was there, so getting this door thing out of the way was necessary no matter what.

Well, dag-nabbit!! Apparently this lock wasn't as easy as she expected. Of course, why he expected it to be easy she didn't know.
Ok, now what, she thought.Hmmmmm, maybe there is is a window and or a ledge around the building for her to climb around and into. And there has to be some sort of ventilation in this place maybe she could get through to the room that way.
She decided to try find another way into the room, hopefully, possibly though some sort of ventilation for her to crawl through, because it would be extremely noticable if she were climbing the building in any way shape or form in the middle of the day. She isn't invisible afterall, just small.

Lilien soon remembered that while proper civilized beings such as Elves, gnomes and dwarfs had well constructed ventilation methods in their various style homes, humans were still a young, crude race. The circulation of air in a common two story building such as this was either a simple open window or chimney flu. She'd have to check the windows. heading back down stairs and outside she scanned the Inn to locate Silk's room. Sure enough like any respectable thief her window was on the North side faced away from the main road and court yard. It was the side of the Inn where few people traveled and even had access to the establishments outer wall.
Now all she had to do was climb up and open the window twenty feet above the ground. The Inns wall was a washed stucco with wood cross beams. Very typical of the Kingdom.

Figuring a rope and grapple would be to noisome for the task the little gnome began to climb the wall with just her fingers and feet. Being small helped the thief here as well. Being lighter tended not to shake things loose as much as heavier folk did and her fingers, while stubby were also tiny and could find purchase in crevices that no 'big' person could ever hope to use. She found herself at Silk's window in moments only to ponder how to finagle the latch while remaining undetected. She needn't have bothered however as the window opened outward suddenly and Lilien was yanked inside in a blur. She tumbled to the floor of the room but, was on her feet in seconds effortlessly, dagger in hand. Before her stood Silk with hands on hips and displaying an ear to ear grin. She was unarmed and looked quite non-threatening.
"Looks like you'll make a good partner after all. Just a test little sister. Just a test." With that she tossed Lilien's coin purse at her feet and giggled like a little girl.

"I am so very glad that someone found humor in this "little" incident of yours!" Lilien fumed. "I sure as hell didn't!"
"I am so very sorry for not understanding what exactly is going on here, but understand this. How am I supposed to even semi-believe your anything that you have said since I met you!!!!!!!!" Keep in mind that Lilien has not put her dagger away, despite the fact that Silk "looks" harmless. Her temper is as high as it could possibly reach, but, then again she did find the challenge quite amusing. Not that she was going to let Silk know that.

Silk stopped laughing and regarded Lilien with a raised eye brow and lopsided grin. When it was apparent that the gnome was taking this all very seriously, Silk sat on her bed. With her back ram-rod straight she smoothed her perfect leathers and began in a slow somber voice, "Well, you have my word as a fellow rogue little sister that I am an experienced, mischievous, thief whom is loyal to her friends. That is to say, I am dishonest and untrustworthy in every way, as is the norm for this profession. So, I suppose you not only can't trust me but, should not trust me. However, as a token of my good faith to you there is your coin purse back without a single coin missing. Now please. I truly do wish to stay in this lovely town and I do need a friendly associate. Would you please go find out if my likeness hangs in the constables office and remove it if it is indeed there? Eh? Be a good sport. I'll wait right here and will cause you no more trouble." With that Silk folded her arms on her lap and smiled pleadingly.

"I did not expect to be able to trust you, but at the same time I did not expect anyone to pull a trick like that on someone when they are asking for help." Lilien stated flatly. She straightened up and took the time to look around in case of any other surprises. She relaxed a little while doing this, but not enough to feel the need to put the dagger away. " I suppose now that I have 'proven' that I can do what I say I can do, you will let me go about the business of your favor? Keep in mind any tricks against me again and I will no longer be the 'little sister' that you seem to love calling me. Especially not while you are asking for my help."
"If you don't mind, can I leave through the door or must I go back the way I came?"

Silk smiled sheepishly. "It is my nature I'm afraid. A trickster by nature." Silk held up her hands palms out in mock surrender. "I assure you I will play no more with you. I am truely greatful for your help. The door is safe now. You need only knock thrice upon your return and I shall let you in."

"Yeah, sure, whatever." Obviously still irritated and intrigued by this elf, she then said, "I will be back when I figure out your situation." Then, as she walked out the door and started heading towards the constables office, started wondering how this was going to all pan out.

Lilien observed the Constables office from across the dirt road. She might be small but she still blended in well enough with the large influx of people in town. A gold rush has that effect after all. 'Lots of strangers make thieving so much easier.' she thought.
The Offices of the local law was a thousand square foot, wood establishment indistinguishable from any other building in town except that it was a little roomier. It had a front window offset by the double doors leading into it. The street facing was enclosed with a wood slatted awning providing shade for the ever present guard sitting on a three legged stool to the left. The chap was a young adult human male whom was dressed in a studded leather jerkin and greeted everyone who walked by with a nod of his head. He sat leaning slightly forward twirling his halberd in his palms as if to start a fire on the porch decking.
Traffic was busy today with someone coming or going within every ten to fifteen minutes. In the last half hour while she looked on only one watchman patrol of four men walked by her.

Lilien figured "Eh, what the hell?". She might as well just start walking in and listen on the way in as best she can After all she was only supposed find out if Silk was wanted after all and was only going to have to take some sort of action if she was. (which, with Lilien, she only figures things out as they happen. Never very good at planning.)
Of course then again, hopefully, Lilien hasn't done anythig to bring attention to herself. Well, she figured, I will just have to discreetly figure all that out now wont I?
Then she headed straight in.
