It had been two days. Two days! Johan sat with Tiy in the Travelers Inn main room. It was mid day and hot. The Timiro Kingdom tended to be rather humid in the spring and summer months. It was early spring. Master Chierinaue woke from a dream and had told them of it. He then left the two companions and headed to Garrotten's Church to Pray for guidance. TWO DAYS had passed to Johan's dismay and still no sign of the young Paladin.
Two more hours past and Chier entered the Inn in a rush. He stagger walked over to his loyal henchmen and sat down. He looked dazed. "Water." he croaked.
"You want me to fetch you some water, master?" Johan asked.
"NO you fool! My dream had me walking on a road of water." The Paladins eyes snapped back into focus. "We must do something on the river." Chier looked at his two followers. "JOHAN! The river Warden. Have you been talking to him as I asked?"
Johan distinctly remembered that it was his idea to gather information from the warden but he dared not correct the paladin. "Aye sir. I've had little time for anything else while you were away."
"Good lad, good lad." Chier stared at Johan with great intensity for what seemed like an eternity. Johan felt uncomfortable under his masters gaze. Then suddenly with a great sigh and then in a strained voice Cheir continued. "...And what pray tell did he have to say?"
"Oh! Sorry my lord. Just gossip about the town and its inhabitants mostly. We can find help and some work at the local hiring hall. Raids have been nonexistent for months now. The Barron is a nice fellow. That sort of thing."
"The RIVER you fool of a sailor. Did he have anything to say about the river?" Chier seemed to be losing his patience with Johan thought Tiy.
"Master what ails you? You seem sorely distressed." Tiy's voice had a calming effect on Chier as it often did.
"I'm sorry Tiy. Johan please forgive me. I am at odds. The Lord of light has tasked me and I wish only to figure out what I am to do and how to do it. Please...Johan...did the Warden have any news of upriver?"
"Only that a boat had crashed up river a couple days ago. No known survivors and that it could get swept away at any time. The currents are strong in early spring it seems from all the snow melt."
"That must be it. Two days you say? That was the night of my dream. It must be connected. Not to mention you yourself joined me not three days ago. A sailor. Come my friends. We will go to the hiring hall and see if there are others who will join us. THEN we will go upriver and investigate this shipwreck."

Chiereneua gathers all of there things and heads for the hireing hall with Johan and tiy in tow. Chiereneua thinks with all possible speed he can.
"Hmm rope, rations, laterns for the night, spare weapons, not too worried about drnink as they will be close enough to the water it selt. "Hmm what else what else" the young pallidan thinks quietly out loud. As they near the hiring hall he points Johan you go see what you can find and tiy and Myself will pick up supplies at the gerneal store."

With Johan off to hire some henchmen Chier and Tiy walk into Jhessil's Trading goods.
"Welcome fine sirs to the best supply store in Garrotten! Look around, look around. If I may be of ANY assistance Please let me know. Everything I have is clearly priced and in view. I have no hidden wares. Forgive me if I have not what you seek but trade has been in decline of late so some items are just hard to keep stocked.

Chier looks around the shoppe and the goes up to the person behind the counter.
"sir excuse me but what we are needing is some rope say like 50' good strength too, some back packs 3 one for ea. of us, lantern, oil for the lantern say enough for about 3 weeks.' So far that is all I can think of but let me look around some more while you get those things.
Chier starts to walk around again.

"No problem my friends!" the jolly halfling replies. "My rope unfortunately comes in 40 foot increments, will that suffice? It is ten gold per 40 feet. Here is one of the longest burning Lanterns I have in my shop. It will burn for 12 hours. I'll get you...lets see...one pint of oil lasts 6 hours...you need 3 weeks worth of oil...lets assume you average 8 hours a day...mumble...one hundred sixty eight hours...that would be...24 pints of oil. EXCELLENT." The little halfling rummages around on a table full of cloth sacks and satchels..."3 Back packs you needed? No problem...here you are." He piles everything up on the counter. "Alright now. 24 gold for the oil. 10 for the rope. Another 25 for the lantern and last but not least 36 gold for the back packs. Your total today good sirs is 95 gold pieces" He says with a smile.

"Hmm" Chier sighs to himself then tells the shoppe keeper well is that not a little steep for the stuff I am asking for I do not think it should cost that much."
Chier thinks about it for a while then comes up with.
"Ok 95 gold you say well I think I will offer you a sum of 50g"

"Ahh, do they haggle prices where your from Master Elf?" Jhessil says with a smile. "Here abouts people pay the price asked. If you be needing cheaper prices you can find most of these items for less down south in Sino. Of course thats just shy of two hundred miles away. I am sorry for the high prices on some of my merchandise but we are on the outskirts of the kingdom out here and trade is not always reliable. It has been better though since the Ogres stopped raiding eight months back." Jhessil's demeanor remains jolly and pleasant the whole time.
Tiy steps in between Chier and the halfling.
"Please my lord Chierinaeu. I still have some gold. Allow me to pay half of the cost. Or maybe we should wait on the lantern. I have one already in my possessions. It is small and will not last as long as the one offered here but I'm sure it would do until we can afford another. The oil is a good price at least."

"Ok I guess i am not in a possition to haggle but was worth a try all you can do is say n o. I will take you up on you offer tiy here is the other half of what is needed adn we shall hold off on thelantern and get enough oil for one night." Chier informs tiy what is going on and then Chier head down to the hiring hall to see what he can find.

The total for 1 pint of gold, 40 feet of rope and the 3 back packs came to a total of 47 gold. Tiy payed his half and continued looking around the shop to see if they had missed anything.
Meanwhile Chierinaeu barly left the shop when he stumbled into Johan. "Ahh master it is good to see you. I attempted to hire help as you requested but...sir there were so MANY of them. There must be no employment in this region. May the lord strike me down if there are not 40 people in that building."

You've been walking around the hiring hall for the better part of an hour now. Some folk you rejected immediately and others were weeded out through conversation. You managed to pick up a wood elven Ranger as a guide and a couple of peasants for labor and menial tasks. The most interesting fellow of the lot however is a wandering dwarven priest of light named Glaivin.
"Well I don't be like'n elves all that much as you may expect but you are a Paladin. Thats saying someth'in even if you are a tree lover. I'll be join'in you if the Lord wills it. I'm bound to be do'in the lords work if I follow you around. Just be know'in I ain't under your employ! We'll be shar'in as equals just like that woody elf you got with ya'. Lets bash some sinners skulls in and send them to the lord! Amen!"

Chier takes a look at what he have here. "Lest see now." Chier mutters under his breath.
"Now we have food, drink, rope, light, (if we need it) packs to keep things in. I think that will work for now. "
Chier informs that grp that whey will be setting off now as apposed to waiting till morning he feels that he is badly needed and fast. So he goes gets hi horse mounts up and the grp is off. walking up the side of the river bank.

You follow the river at a slow trot so your band of followers can keep up. The first day is pretty uneventful as you pace yourselves along the river. Maverick your Wood Elven guide runs on ahead of the group to scout any dangers ahead. He checks back in with Chier every half hour or so to report all is well and then runs off again.
Tiy has been engrosed in conversation with the two new henchmen for most of the day. Mandrid (another southerner like Johan) really does seem to have some experience as a torch bearer and overall helper. He assures Tiy that he is well versed in making camp outside as well as in a dungeon setting. He agrees to help Tiy with oiling Chier's armor and weapons as well as taking turns cooking.
The poor wood elf Trillion was banished from his home just last year and is having trouble adapting to human settlements. He tells Chier how greatful he is every so often but not enough to be anoying. Tiy tells him he will be incharge of carrying extra gear and supplies for the most part and to jump in with any help he can offer.
Johan seems to spend most of the day looking out onto the river. Does he miss the sailor life? If so he isn't telling.
The mighty looking dwarf Glaivin as Chier discoveres likes the sound of his own voice. While not coming off as hostile he seems to find minor faults in just about everyone from Mandrid's over exageration of his exploits to Trillion's obviuos need to repent for whatever had him banished.
As the sun is thinking about setting Chier decides to look for a spot to set up camp.....

Having listend to the wood elf that was scouting the area up ahead he decides that there would be a decent place to set up camp about 400 meters up from where the grp stands now.
As the group arrives at the camp site Chier says to himself "yes yes this will be a fine place to camp there is good protection with the rocks here that some what surround this area they have come accross.
"Ok guys listen up please I think it would be wise for glaivin to take the first watch I will take the last watch. I think two should be enough considering how late it is at the moment." Chiereneua points to spots around the camp as he is giving the instruction.

"Aye master. Please wake me at dawn so I may cook break-fast for our group. Do we expect to reach the ship on the marrow then?" Asks Mandrid in a helpful tone.
Tiy sets up a tent for Chier and decides to sleep at the opening. He instructs the Dwarven priest to wake him so Tiy may wake Chier himself.
The rest of the party make bedrolls around a small fire tended by Maverick before he settles in.
