Bane didn't like the sound of it, any of it. Some mysterious land far enough away that this alchemist would be able to cut "a great deal of time off" the journey. This was bad enough because that meant more quailty time with Barbarus. But now, the Alchemist would offer this assistance for a "price". He dared not to be the first to ask what this price would be. Afterall, how much was this man, if he were even a man, ask to examine their new gear.
In Bane's mind, things were beginning to take a turn for the worse. The longer they stayed, he was sure the sooner the alchemist would discover this book in their possession. He shot a look to Sunny to express his discomfort.

"Yeeees," Barbarius begins in an annoyed, sing-song voice,"So what's yer price?" Barbarius is getting bored with this little scrub. Barbarius had things to do, like drink tankards of ale and make love to a special lady who has touched his heart( among other body parts). Barbarius also wasn't too keen on a 6 month canoe ride with this bunch.

"Yes Wizard. Name your price." Sunny added.
Gardrax clasped his hands and smiled. "First, assuming all these artifacts you wish me to study are akin to the dwarfs unusual face apparel plus the knowledge I have already divulged concerning the Cosmic knights and if you choose to take me up on my offer of...transportation I'll charge you 50,000 in gold crowns. If gold is not an option I see many a great artifact in this group that would fancy me if you were willing to part with one. I would also be willing to do all this for you for the simple request of allowing an associate of mine to accompany you on this Journey. I am intrigued and I feel I could learn a great many things from this quest. What say you?"

"You would do everything if we took one of yer cronies along?" Barbarius asks Gardrax with a raised eyebrow," We wouldn't have to pony up any gold or magic your way? You would just let payment slide on your services?" Barbarius scratches his beard. Sounds to good to pass up. "If we take one o' yer associates along what to be expected of us? We have a very direct and personal mission with these knights that doesn't involve anyone else. Also, are we forced to share any spoils with this one? I mean, being negotiated into our group under these conditions, should limit this. What kind of information are you looking for? I don't know you from Adam, How do we know, by accepting this offer, we aren't working for an enemy of law who just want to spread chaos throughout the world?"

"I assure you master dwarf I am in no way in league with chaos. As for my offer. Yes. Either Gold, Magic or traveling companion. Those are your options. I care not what you choose for all will benefit me. What information do I seek? Better understanding of these knights for one. Knowledge of far off places for another."

"Fair 'nuff," Barbarius grunts,"So, Who's this companion?"

"Sir, this is most assuredly going to be dangerous. We can not promise you that we will be able to babysit this companion. They must be able to defend themselves from whatever evil we might meet." Bane spoke as humbly and sincere as he could.
Bane really didn't care about this companion person, as long as it was another dwarf that is. However, if this meant a shorter journey and saving 10,000 gold, Bane was willing to listen to the Alchemist.

"Well I sure ain't given up any of my gear though I can scrounge together a few thousand if we want to go that route. I'm not really up for babysitting either." Meylon added.
"I assure you all that my companion can take care of himself. He is a scholastic monk and is used to avoiding danger. Also he has full access to my possessions." Gardrax reassured the group.
"Well I can gather 20,000 but, fifty is just out of my range." Sunny adds dejectedly. "Looks like we take the Monk. Agreed?"
No one objected so Gardrax continued. "EXCELLENT. Now if you'll show me these items of yours maybe I can shed some light on there functions."

"Hey Sparky! Barbarius interjects," I haven't agreed and you have skirted past the question. WHO'S THIS COMPANION!Where is he...or she? Barbarius can't believe this guy. He's trying to pull something.

"yes sir. I'm afraid I must agree with Barbarius. Before we agree to this companion, we should be told who they are first. Please don't tell me it is the troll." Bane could see that Barb wasn't going to let this one go. So he thought it best to push the Alchemist for an answer before Barb made this situation go south.

Gardrax raised an eyebrow at the objections.
"My associates name is Xan Jeriko. As I said he is a scholastic Monk and certainly not a Troll. He's a human who runs a wildlife observatory for me on the other side of these windows before you. He knows the area well and will be your guide in the Ophid's Grasslands if you choose. You'll meet him even if you choose another form of payment as soon as I transport you there. We've been in communication so he is expecting you. He's a pleasant chap though he may be a bit talkative considering he lives alone. Anything else?"

"Oh," Barbarius chirps," Well then, sounds good to me. I don't like parting with money or useful items, so this is a much better arrangement. He better be able to keep up, cause I ain't helping him." Barbarius smiles.

"I have no issues if ain't a Troll or a Priest." Meylon aggrees.
Sunny, shrugs. "I have no objections. Bane?"

Bane rubbed his furry chin in thought, "a monk you say, very interesting. I'm not terribly excited about traveling with a human, but as long as it is not a troll, or worse, another dwarf..., then I have no objection either. So if we are agreed, may we move on to other business? Perhaps, you might have a look at some of our gear?"

Gardrax spent just over an hour looking over and testing the strange gear left by the cosmic knight. It was difficult for Gardrax considering the artifacts didn't look like they had originally except for Barbarius' eye piece. Another problem was the fact that the objects seemed unwilling to come off. In the end Gardrax had little to tell.
"The objects appear to be some mix of technology and magic. 'Techno-magic' if you will. They are all connected magically somehow. I did learn a power word that will reveal the items true form but, it may be better to let them stay as they are. They'll attract less attention for sure. As for their functions....It is beyond me. I feel only a Cosmic knight will have answers for you. I'm sorry."
