"I am not going anywhere! Barbarius is not backing down," I mean it. I don't even trust myself with it. I want Sunny to carry it! It belongs to the Cosmic Knights, right? Sunny is a Paladin, he should be in charge of it. NEVER MIND! I don't have to explain anything to you. Hand it over to Sunny, NOW!"

From the street Bane replied, "then go back to the pub. You should feel at home there."

Sunny having realized his two comrades were still bickering in the middle of the street. He marched back and calmly shoulders past Bane and walks up to the slayer. Kneeling down on one knee he looks eye to eye with the passionate dwarf.
In a calm, firm voice Sunny tries to reason with Barbarius.
"My friend, if it means so much to you I will gladly carry the tome. I understand your reasoning and commend you on your stalwartness to make sure it is in safe hands. However while you do not know Bane as I do, I will tell you honestly that he is the most honorable of creatures that I have ever known. When you and I came to the crippled form of the dying knight he was entrusting this mysterious book to Bane with his last breath. Bane feels honor bound to protect it and it grieves me to have to take that burden from him. To be forced to break ones oath is...well...I need not explain that to you. Let the Wolf keep his honor and allow us all to focus on it's protection. What say you Barbarius?"

Barbarius smiles and shoves Sunny back down on his ass," Don't patronize me Sunny," Barbarius playfully chides. Sunny has a way with this war torn dwarf. " Sunny, I just don't think it's right. The only reason that Cosmic Knight grabbed your pet, is because it was the biggest thing there. Bane, made no promise and the Knight didn't just ask him. Hell, you were the first to touch that Knight! Now, we don't even know if the pup has the book anymore. He won't even show it to us. Don't you think that's wrong? He won't even face me with honor, he's just intent on getting us in that shop. Could be a trap for all we know and that elf may have your trust, but I can tell she's no good. Sunny, I don't know about all this, but right now I am right pissed and if you can't get your pet to convince me otherwise, I am liable to collect a piece of Wolfen hide for me many trophies." Barbarius doesn't want to disappoint Sunny, but he is also tired of the dishonor before him. If the Wolfen really thought Barbarius to be nothing, then Barbarius swears, it will be his last thought.

Sunny stands back up and stares down at the slayer. "Your very stubborn Barbarius." commenting the obvious.
Sunny walks over to Bane. "I need the book Bane. There is no reasoning with him. Truth is we'll need him before this is through. I am truly sorry for the dishonor."

Bane glances to Barbarius. Slipping the pack off his back, Bane produces the book, pressing it firmly against Sunny's chest, "there is no dishonor unless this book fails to make it back safely. None but us know about this, I prey you can keep the dwarf from revealing it to anyone. Now, the alchemist awaits us, and the quicker we finish the quicker we can leave this place." With that Bane turned and continued back to the alchemicst's shoppe.

With the book secreted away in Sunny's pack and the slayer satisfied the group finally arrive at the alchemist shoppe. Meylon trys to get everyones minds back on track by informing the group about the alchemist before they enter.
"This Gardrax fellow is a wize old elf but, he doesn't like company. It took all our skill to convince him to see all four of us at the same time. I suggest we leave your henchmen outside Sunny."
"Agreed." the Paladin said stiffly.
"Good. Oh and ahh, I'm not happy about it but...he keeps a troll as a manservent." Meylon spat.

"A TROLL?" Barbarius is shocked," This Guy must be pretty tough to have a Troll for a slave." Now that everything is settled, Barbarius sheathes his ax and flashes a smile at Lady Marrissa. "I for one, would love to see this world rid of all Trolls( Barbarius spits upon the ground in utter contempt), but if this Alchemist is powerful enough to enslave one these foul beasts, I better leave this one alone, but hear me now, I won't hesitate if it gets froggy." Barbarius looks up at Bane and with a lopsided smile,"Alright, you want us to meet this Alchemist, lead the way, pup!"

Bane stepped forward, but this place was certainly a maze. Given what they have seen there must be even more that they have not. Bane thought for a second and thought he remembered the way but with all of this magic the room might have "moved". So he turned to the troll made a sweeping gesture in the direction from which the had earlier passed, "your master is expecting us, best we not keep him waiting."

The Troll snorted in response. "This way."
The troll lead the party down a hall to an enclosed, spiral staircase. The group climbed flight after flight after flight with nothing to see but stone wall, the occasional wall sconce with flaming torch and the Trolls back. After what seemed like an eternity the stairwell opened up into a fifty foot circular room. The ceiling was a good twenty feet high and the curved walls were actually a dozen archways from floor to ceiling completely enclosed by glass. The panoramic view outside was of a vast plain as far as the eye could see. Only the spine of an endless Mountain Range could be seen to the far west where the sun was setting. A flying monstrosity with black leathery skin covered in blisters or boils violently chewed what appeared to be a furry orc of some kind in it's massive, tooth filled maw just outside the tower windows.
At the far end of the room from the stairway was Gardrax the Great Alchemist gazing out over the plain.
"So you have arrived. Good. I have discovered some information concerning these cosmic knights. Shall I enlighten you or shall I have a look at these mysterious items first?" He spoke with his hands clasped behind his back, never turning from the window.

Bane looked at the faces of his group, then looked back to the alchemist, "I for one would enjoy learning more about the cosmic knights."

"Excellent. I can tell you can afford my fees for information and magical divination so I won't bore you with costs and get right to the point. These 'Cosmic Knights' appear to be a self proclaimed Order of Knights and Paladins dedicated to the protection of the entire Cosmos from evil and chaos. They must posses some powerful artifacts or have magical means to cross space, time and dimensional barriers in order to do this though I have no specifics. Most of the tome that references these knights babbles on about great battles and praising lost heroes of another age. However I was able to gleam from cross references with in several chapters that there is or at least was an out post on this very world. The location is vague but, I have a good idea where to look. However this reference is hundreds of years old so, to say it is out dated is a gross understatement. However it is your only lead."
The alchemist seemed to take pause at this time and looked to the group of heroes before him.
"With me so far?"

"Yeah so out with it already!" Barbarius is impatient as usual and he's preoccupied looking for that troll. He's having a real hard time respecting an elf no matter how bad he may seem. " Where is this outpost?"

Gardrax gave Barbarius a wry grin. "Why it's about a hundred miles to the north at the edge of this plain you see before you." Gardrax waved with a sweep of his arm to encompass the windows. "What you see is known as the Ophid's grasslands. Heard of it?"
There was a mixture of replies. Bane had no idea what the elf was referring to. Sunny had heard of it by name alone and Meylon and Barbarius knew it was a great land of nothingness set in the center of vary dangerous lands on all of its boarders. It was also not close to the kingdom of Timiro and would require a good six months to reach by land, two if they could get passage on an a ship.
"To the north East of this vast plain of grass lay the 'Devil's Mark' rumored to be a gateway to hell it's self. the Cosmic Knights have an outpost guarding this rift in order to keep the worst of the demonic devils at bay. It is there you must go and I can cut a great deal of time off your journey. For a price."
