Windillia is brought up short at this. "I ah, will not be there. Or at least, not beside you. I have done this of my own free will. Nobody else knows. For a woman to confront the Tribes war Chief would be certain death. I will take you within visual of the camp and then circle around to enter from the other side. Make no mention of me please. Even if you should succeed I will be executed for any involvement. Your plan should work however. Whinnay is our War Chief. If he is defeated the council of nine will elect another. No one shares Whinnay's views. It is just against custom to defy the War Chief."

"You're right of course Windillia. I would not ask you to endanger yourself unnecessarily. What I had meant was that my presence as the expected champion should be played up. I would never intentional throw you under the wagon, to coin a phrase. So when Barbarius steps up to fight, his sudden appearance should be all the more surprising."

With the plan settled upon the group continued the rest of the way for the most part in silence. Barbarius grumbled a bit because he really couldn't see more then a few feet ahead do to the long grass. He just tromped along after his taller companions. Soon though the grass became shorter and he was able to see what the others did. A great camp of odd looking tents. Centaurs ran this way and that. Dotting the land scape in and around the camp were a dozen siege engines. Ballista, catapults and Trebuchet were all present.
"This is whee I leave you my friends. Thank you again for coming to my tribes aid." Windillia galloped off to the east, presumably to circle around the camp.
"How long should we give her?" Marrissa mused aloud as she unslung her mandolin.

"Count to 50. Then we'll walk up real slow and stop right at the edge of the camp. Keep 'em back Marrissa. I will walk right behind you, pup. When Marrissa calls out my name call it out too and I will do my thing. If any of these ponies try anything let 'em know I will kill them too. Marrissa, hun, make sure you call out Whinay, only and make him look like a chump if he can't kill me when I come out. Other than that love, watch me, I'm gonna give you somethin' ta sing about," Barbarius smiles.

The group followed the plan with Marissa up front and Bane & Barbarius behind her. Barbarius stayed as hidden as he could behind the Wolfen's spindly, back bent legs. A close inspection in the dark would reveal his legs and lower torso between them but, at least his grim face and slayers mane of red hair was blocked from view.
Marissa strolled up to the camp singing and playing her mandolin. Whether to gain attention or to calm her nerves she would never tell, but it had the desired effect in either case. A group of centaurs, ten in all, approached the party weapons ready. A brutish looking fellow rippling with muscles and armed with a spear was in the forefront. A jagged scar ran from the lower half of his cheek down to just past his shoulder. Unlike all the others his chest was devoid of armored protection. "You lost human? Take your pet wolfen and go away now!" he barked in a booming, authoritative voice, obviously used to giving commands.
"Nay good sir! You misunderstand. We are here to see Whinay! He has offended our master whom has sent us to discuss terms. Please send someone to fetch him before he makes a grave error." The bard reslung her instrument over her back as the Warrior replies.
"Whom is this master you serve?" the massive centaur interrogates.
"Why, none other then Xan himself. Proprietor and owner of the great tower you even now, besiege for Whinay's misguided cause." Marissa spoke calmly and loud with no hint of fear or doubt. She was in complete control.
Just then Windillia approaches the armed squad from the rear. "What is all the commotion Rhoohu-ha" she asked.
"Go tell Whinay he has visitors from Xan. I believe they are the ones he spoke of upon his return are they not?" Rhoohu-ha inquired.
"Windillia stepped forward. "Indeed! I shall tell him immediately."
Windillia returned shortly along with Whinay and a good score of centaurs as well.
"You wish to speak for Xan human? Has he come to his senses?" Whinay barked the question.
"Oh nay oh Horse Master. The great Xan wishes to be rid of you. He has instructed his champion behind me to put you out to pasture as it were. He wished me to convey to you that he feels your clip-cloping around the Councils hindquarters in an attempt to draw and quarter them so you can assume stud rights of your mighty tribes is transparent. You are nothing but a sway backed, old, mare with blinders on. You are more insignificant then the fly that is biting your ass. For he will swat you down without a thought. So I ask in Xan's name, will you fight Xan's champion for ownership of the tower or will you gallop away and leave the tribes in the hands of better individuals then you?"
Marissa's speech worked. Whinay was huffing in rage, pawing the ground with a metal shod hoof. "I except Xan's challenge! When I am done beating this pup I shall ride you back to the tower in triumph human!"
"So be it." Marissa continued. "I give you Xan's champion. 'Barbarius the Salyer'."

Barbarius comes out form behind Bane and snarls," COME ON YA WALKING PIECE A ROADKILL, LET'S BE DONE WITH IT!" Barbarius grips his axe and approaches the Centaur looking him in his eyes, with cool calculation.

A hush came over the crowd as the two combatants squared off. The grass swayed in the evening breeze creating a soft rustle. Barbarius gripped his axe and Whinay pawed at the ground. The cloud cover that had moved in as night progressed parted just enough to cast a silver ray down onto the field. Barbarius stalked forward and Whinay let out a great cry and charged with Hammer-Staff raised like a lance.
Without warning two of the younger Centaurs brought their spears up and attacked the huge Wolfen Bane.

The two champions clash with a flurry of blows. Barbarius steps to the side and delivers a mighty blow to Whinay's thorax crushing armor and cutting flesh (26 hit 29 damage. No parry do to charging). Whinay charges just past the dwarf before halting, swinging back with his hammer-staff but the Slayer redirects the momentum away from himself effortlessly. (22 to hit, 31 parry!). Both turn to face each other and the dwarf swings up and under but is blocked by the butt end of Whinay's odd weapon (20 to hit, 22 parry). Whinay takes a chance and twirls his Hammer-Staff before bringing it down at Barbarius' head. The arrogantly fancy move gives the dwarf ample time to bring his axe shaft up to catch the blow. (19 to hit, natural 20 parry). Pushing the staff off his axe Barbarius makes a jab for the centaurs lower ribcage, but is blocked by Whinay's swift reflexes. (22 to hit, 25 parry). The centaur leader rears and stomps at the slayer with steel shod hooves but Barbarius just laughs and swats them aside. (16 to hit, 23 parry). Jabbing yet again to put a bit more distance between the two for better swinging room Barbarius proves his skill as he stabs Whinay and yanks the hammer-Staff out of the pained centaurs hands. (17 to hit, 1 CRITICAL MISS to parry). The centaur trots off and retrieves his weapon some five feet away. (loss of 1 attack). Barbarius takes the opportunity to bring his mighty axe at Whinay's accessible hind legs bringing forth a fountain of blood and gore. (22 to hit, 21 to parry). Whinay staggers but finally manages to clip the dwarf in the head. (25 to hit, 23 to parry, 19 damage to Barbarius)
ooc: Round one is over.

The lead centaur charged Bane. His spear was brought into line hastily and was easily swatted aside by the wolfens large polearm. With a twist and a flick of Banes wrist the charging stud lost his weapon as he passed. Turning to face the second, slower centaur Bane lunged and chopped. The half man half horse could only look on dumbfounded as he ran on with only the broken and splintered shaft of his spear. The head now lay in the dirt before the wolfen ranger. With a snarl of triumph Bane barked once and the two would be attackers trotted off behind the ranks of their fellows. No one else dared approach the dueling champions.
ooc: end of round one for Bane as well. Sorry for delay.

The mighty Slayer reels from the head shot but the thick skulled dwarf just snarls and counters with a thrust thats blocked by Whinay (18 to hit, 19 parry). The centaur lord tiring from his wounds calls upon the magic of his hammer-staff. It crackles with electrical energy. A bolt leaps from the rectangular block head of the weapon at Barbarius. The dwarf intercepts the bolt with the flat side of his axe but the energy just engulfs the weapon and snakes up the dwarf's muscled arms. (18 damage). The now angered dwarf leaps at the centaur with an overhead chop but his arm muscles spasm from the electricity making it easy for Whinay to parry the blow. (21 to hit, 22 parry). With a smile on his face for the first time Whinay bashes at Barbarius again with his mystical Hammer-Staff, but the dwarf quickly recovers and stops it mid-stroke (22 to hit, 29 to parry). Sick of this pathetic creature Barbarius goads Whinay into closing so he can deliver the killing stroke. (27 to hit, 18 to parry, 26 damage). Whinay's head lands at the feet of his people.

Barbarius throws his axe on the ground and snarls. He marches toward the tribe of centaurs, a look of psychotic blood lust on his red face. A goose egg growing out of the top his head becomes visible when grabs Whinay's head. Barbarius looks at Rhoohu-ha. " IT'S OVER!" Barbarius takes some of Whinay's blood in his free hand and smears it in his beard. He next looks every centaur in the eyes," WHINAY BROUGHT THIS ON HIMSELF AND DIED WITH HONOR! HONOR HIM BY LEAVING THE TOWER ALONE! IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO RETURN TO YOUR PEACEFUL EXISTENCE AND LEAVE WAR TO MAN!" Barbarius looks back at Bane and Marissa, then quickly back to Rhoohu-ha. He throws Whinay's head at Rhoohu-ha's chest, so the Centaur could easily catch it,"BURY HIM!" Barbarius walks back to his friends, picking up his axe along the way. He gives Bane a manly pat for the back up and saunters over to Marissa. He smiles at her and with a finger calls her closer to him.

Bane notices Rhoohu-ha pick up his leaders head and trot off into the camp with his followers. Only Windillia remains behind and she canters over to him. "You have lifted a heavy burden from my tribe. For that I thank you. Now a new War Chief will be chosen. One whom will only make war when needed and only when her negotiations fail. Of that I am certain."
Marrissa walks over to the heroic slayer. "That was exhilarating Barbarius! You were wonderful!"

Barbarius smiles, grabs her and plants one her. A deep kiss, what can I say? Fighting makes him hot. He turns to Bane and releases Marissa," Let's get outta here."

Bane walked slowly so as not to out pace Barbarius. He was amazed that this little drunk had pulled off such a great victory. Whinay was at least three times the size of the dwarf, yet which now lays dead on the battle field. This was the first time Bane could remember in this journey that Barbaius actually seemed happy. Bane walked slowly so Barbarius could enjoy his victory march toward the Devil's Mark.
Bane tried to work it out in his head. He knew the direction the rest of the group would take but at what pace? Somehow he had to work out a path that would put them in line with the others while staying on course to find the knights. Finally Bane checked his gut, found his route and pressed on. He urged Barbarius on silently by stepping out slightly to hasten their travel. Bane figured that the pace of a dwarf, even a dwarf celebrating, was slower then a humans, which would in turn be slower then his own.

Marrissa talked quietly to Barbarius while they followed the Wolfen Ranger. "No really. I want you to have it." She said as she pressed her magical tankard of replenishment into the slayer's calloused hands. "To remember me by in case...something happens."
