Clutching the strange tome in his hands, Bane continued to stare at the strange warrior but rose his voice to speak to the group, "this warior, strange as his appearance may be, has risked his life to protect this from evil. He has died an honorable death and should given an honorable burial."
Bane tucked the book away for future study then prepared to move the warrior. The entire time the warrior's words echoed in his head, "Must...protect the...book. Ta..to..cosmic...knights. Take...to...to...Meg..megaverse...depends...on...yuoooo."
Something evil was coming their way, he could feel it.

As soon as the Ranger touched the body to move it a strange thing happened. Various pieces of the man's equipment dissolved into liquid and began to ooze off the body. The Breast plate that now looked nothing more then molten metal raced up Banes arm with incredible speed. The belt, eye pieces and gauntleted spear all dissolved as well but, in different directions. Meylon yelped as what was once a belt leaped off the ground and wrapped itself around her leg. The eye piece had managed to cling to Barbarius' boot while Sunny was fighting to keep the ooze representing the spear off his shield. The sensation of the liquid metal was surprisingly cool considering it looked as hot as a dwarfen forge. The tenacious metal ooze continued to slurp there way onto the heroes body, not settling until they reformed in their proper places. Bane found himself constrained by the alien breast plate, unable to take it off. It mysteriously took the form of his green chameleon leathers though he could still see the criss-cross patterns of light dancing around his chest if he looked hard enough. Glancing up Meylon was trying to undo the belt that now resembled nothing more then a brown sash with flashing runes upon it. Sunny to was fighting in vain to remove the now Black Gauntlet from his hand. The technolance still clutched in his fingers. The most unsettling was Barbarius. The strange head piece latched onto the dwarfs face covering his left eye and ear. Because it resembled nothing the dwarf currently possessed it remained in its original form though it had taken on the pattern of the dwarfs tattoos in that area etched into the alien metal.

"What?" Barbarius asks," Why are you looking at me like that?" Barbarius was a little unsettled by the looks on his comrade's faces. These were hardened adventures, not much put that kind of look of disgust and horror on their faces, but why were they looking at Barbarius with it. He had to admit, that whole liquid metal deal was weird. It moved so fast to his face he barely could react. Barbarius could feel the metal on his face. what happened? Barbarius reaches up and touces the metal. Smoothing it out and feeling the texture Barbarius doesn't really react. He just says, "oh."

Sunny was inspecting the spear. "Well at least this isn't stuck to me like the gauntlet is." He passed it back and forth between his hands while looking at Barbarius obviously more distressed then the dwarf was. "Ahhh, so can you see alright?"
"Sooo, what now? We might be able to fetch a good price for that book, though I'd love to know how to get this sash off me." Meylon spoke to no one in particular.

Barbarius looks at Sunny and begins to answer, but once he hears the assassin's response, he is shocked. He grips his axe tight and turns to her," SELL IT? YOU IDIOT! DID YOU HEAR WHAT THAT GUY SAID? COME ON SUNNY, WE GOTTA GET THIS BOOK TO THOSE COSMIC KNIGHTS, RIGHT?" Barbarius is panicked that anyone would suggest selling this book. If what Barbarius is sensing is right, this book is too powerful to let just anyone have. Barbarius points at Meylon," SUNNY, WE GOT TA GET RID OF MELONS HERE! SHE'S BAD NEWS!"

"As much as it pains me, I have to agree with Barbarius here, well partially anyway. This book is obviously very important to someone. This brave warrior laid down his life to protect it. Now unless anyone here can explain the magic involved in what just happened, I am willing to believe that we are dealing with forces beyond anything any of us have seen before. We need to protect this book until such time that we can return it to the proper owner."
Bane took a deep breath and turned to look directly at Meylon, "now Meylon, I must plead to your noble heart and ask that you put such thoughts behind you and focus on the greater good here. One man has already died because of this book possible others as well. Perhaps the owner will grant you some sort of a reward once they are found."
Looking from face to face he paused and stared at Barbarius, "you poor thing, look at your face." Bane shook his head slowly, "what a shame. If only that metal could have covered the rest of that face." Bane tried his best to smile and slapped Barbarius on the shoulder, "now come I need you strong back. We need to bury this human. It should also help to throw off anyone that might have followed him."
Bane moved back to the body and hesitated for before trying to touch him again.

Meylon put up her hands, palms out defensively. "Hey, whatever. I'm just being practical here. I have an eye for valuables and that book would fetch a milion...milion five in Gold crowns from a good Alchemist. How do you plan on returning it anyway? I mean, Cosmic Knights? Megaverse? It's the delirious ramblings of a dieing man is all. I'm also very honorable thank you very much but, none of us promised the man anything."
Sunny put his hand on the assassins shoulder and spoke calmly and in a soft voice. "Come. Let us pay respects to the dead and we will decide how best to proceed."
"Fine. Can we at least take this stuff to an Alchemist or scholar? Maybe we can figure out all this gear and some more about that book. Heck, if you're all set on finding these knights than an Alchemist may even know something about them." 'and' Meylon thought, Maybe when the Alchemist tells them how much he'll pay they'll change their minds about all this.
The four unlikely companions buried the strange knight and Sunny gave a short surman. The day was half over and according to Sunny they were still a few hours away from a small river town called Garrotten where his men waited for them.

Following the surman, Bane checked his gear and prepared to move out. As he slung his pack onto his back to made a quick check that the book was still inside. Bane felt in his stomach that it was a bad idea to begin involving too many extra people, especially more humans, reqarding this book. Sure the new strange gear, that made sense and could tell them about these cosmic knights. But something about this book bothered him. I was probably best if he not only held onto it but kept it close to him.
He moved in silence as his mind raced with all these thoughts. Heading to a town where he was certain there would be other issues to occupy him.

After the sermon, Barbarius went over to the cart. He soothed the work horse which was still shaken from it's near fall. Before the burial Barbarius unhitched the beast and led her to nice, delicious grass by the river. Barbarius looked over at the up turned cart with a sigh. It didn't look good. Utilizing his raw strength the dwarf proceeded to get the cart right.

The crash of the cart being righted snapped Bane out of his cloud and he turned to see Barbarius tending now to the horse. For just a moment Bane could see a look of contentment on the face of Barbarius. Work seemed to distract him from whatever it was that seemed to always be bothering him. Caring for the horse Bane could glimpse a hint of deeply buried nobilty in him, and how appropriate for a dwarf he thought. It did seem such a shame that the thing that seemed to bring Barbarius such pleasure should be taken away. Maybe after they reach this human settlement, there might be a way to replace it.
Bane moved toward the cart to see if he could help putting things right with cargo and such, or sooth the horse's fears and prepare it for travel.

" LOOK PUP!" Barbarius points at a small, hairline crack in the center of the driver's side rear wheel," SUNNY! HOW FAR IS THIS TOWN? THIS CART AIN'T GONNA MAKE IT MUCH FURTHER!( turning to Bane) Don't You agree?"

"Aye tunneler. We wont travel much further on that wheel."

Sunny and Meylon came over to the cart to inspect the faulty wheel.
"Great, well it's a few hours at most. We best get moving." Sunny commanded.
Meylon mounted Shuriken and rode along side the cart. She smirked at the Paladin as he took the front seat and prepared to drive the cart to town. "What happened to your mount Sunny? You look ridiculous driving that thing."
"My men have my Pegasus at the town. We needed this cart for the mission we're...err, were on."
"Ahh." was all she replied.
The unlikely companions traveled in silence for the most part for the better of two hours when there was a CRACK-BOOM behind them. Turning round the four adventurers saw dark clouds in the distance and bolts of lightning. Just as quickly it was gone.
"That looked...familiar." the elven assassin stated wryly.
"Another knight perhaps?" Sunny mused

"I fear not friends. That, I wager, would be the thing that killed the first knight. With the body buried, we might have bought us some time. Not to mention, we do have a couple hour headstart, and we know where we are going. However, I would suggest that we continue and make haste." Bane could feel something in his bones, this was a bad omen. Whatever killed this warrior might not have such a hard time with this group.
"There was something I was wondering. Barbarius, did you per chance make notice of the knight's injures? Well, I did and frankly I am concerned. Of all the cuts and scratches on his body, they were neither made from blades nor the claws of any beast I have encountered. So whatever killed him was powerful in both strength and magic. It was able to literally kill a knight with its bare hands and travel in the same manner the knight could. Come, we should keep moving."

Barbarius is absolutely silent on the ride to Garrotten. He is deep in thought, rubbing his fingers over the smooth metal that was attached to his face. He rubs and follows the markings that is etched upon the the metal to resemble his tattoos. Barbarius doesn't flinch with the sound of the exploding sky, he continues to look ahead in a starry eyed haze. He is able to concentrate a little on the wheel that was damaged, it should make it, as long as they don't take any unnecessary stops or detours, like killing 2 dozen orc slaves. " What?" Barbarius heard his name," Oh yeah, the dragon really tore him up. It was a dragon, right?" He looks toward Sunny, even though it is Bane speaking to him," S'all right, I am ready to face anything!" Barbarius smiles and goes back to feeling that plate now above his new left eye.
