"I didn't think you would have noticed you ignorant drunkard. And I'd be careful about facing anyone with that mug of yours. Anyway, for the sake of the rest of you we need to be extra careful and keep watch for anyone suddenly following us. At least when we reach town we will be able to find a place to hide specticles here."

Bane was stumped by the dwarfs comment. A dragon?. The wolfen supposed it was possible. He had never encountered a dragon before but, the marks seemed way to small to be from a legendary creature as that. Then again he had heard cub tales of dragons taking forms of mortals....he shook his head to clear it. It wasn't worth speculating on. They would find out if and when they crossed paths. He focused instead on panting. This southern heat was murder. He stroked his left arm and his hand came away matted with fur. I'll be shedding for weeks he whimpered.
The wheel broke off a half mile before the town of Garrotten. Insisting that the party no longer needed it, Sunny lead them on foot to what appeared to be a town going through a period of growth. The first building they saw was a guard shack complete with two well armed guards. Sunny stopped to ask directions.
"I say, where could I find an establishment called the Travelers Inn, my good man?" he asked pleasantly.
"Just up the road your Lordship. 'Ti's the only Inn in town though there is talk of building a second down by the docks." the guard responded easily enough. Sunny had a way with getting people to open up to him if he wished it.
"Thank you private. You've been most helpful." Sunny began to continue into town but, Meylon had a question of her own.
"Would there be a local Alchemist here abouts per chance? In this town or the next perhaps?" She asked sweetly.
"Oh sure." This from the other guard. "We've got two in fact. Just up the road past the Inn is the Lady Androsia's herb and potion shoppe while at the center of town is Gardrax the Great located at the Nexus Point."
"Thank you." she trotted up to Sunny and the rest who hadn't stopped walking and leaned over the side of her horse to speak more softly yet still be heard. "You see? There is a full fledged Alchemist by the sound of it. Why don't the wolf and I go pay this Gardrax a visit while you two go find these men of yours Sunny? What say you all?"

" Sure, I don't care," grumbled Barbarius. He was a little pissed that stupid cart couldn't make it all the way and needed a drink.

Bane wasn't crazy about being in a town and the fact that is was a human one only made this worse. He did his best to conceal himself within his cloak but that did nothing to hide his great height. So he moved quickly and encourage Meylon keep up. Even though Bane wasn't sure he could trust Meylon at least she was a noble Elf and a far cry better looking that damned lush of a dwarf.

Sunny scratched his jaw in thought. "I don't know. Maybe we should all stick together. You wouldn't be splitting up in order to try and sell that belt would you Meylon?" The paladin asked suspiciously.
"Why heavens no, Sunny. I'll admit I'm interested to see just how valuable it is but, I can't even take it off let alone sell it. Besides I have Bane here to keep an eye on me." Meylon smiled.
"Fine. We'll do this your way." Sunny started walking to the Inn with Barbarius in tow. "Oh and Meylon?" he called as an after thought.
"Yes Sunny." the assassin called back with mock pleasantness.
"I want your word of honor you won't try double crossing any of us. We're in this together."
"My word..." Meylon stared at the Paladin evilly. She was starting to see why her lover Morgan hated this man so. "You have my word Sunny." No going back now she thought. If there was one thing she never broke it was her word. Damn that man.

THE INN:
Barbarius followed Sunny into the Inn while absently feeling his new eye piece. It was cool to the touch and definitely metal. There didn't seen to be any mechanical parts to fiddle with and somehow even though it covered his whole ear as well he could hear perfectly. In fact, better then perfect. The Inn was packed with patrons of all races so the place was loud with the noise of conversation. At first he was overwhelmed with noise and became disoriented by it. Shaking his head to clear it didn't seem to help. Next the dwarf tried to drown out all the conversations by focusing on just one. That helped. He concentrated on a couple of halfings on the other side of the room. "What do we have planned tonight Pith.." now at a pair of lovers up stairs on the second floor balcony. "..but my love I should..." The elf at the end of the bar. "Bar keep? Another bottle..." a slow grin began to spread onto the slayers face. He could hear everything he focused on almost completely cutting out everything else. Then the real surprise hit Barbarius. He was listening to different languages. Languages that he didn't speak and he could understand them all! This revelation was cut short as Sunny introduced him to his henchmen.
"Barbarius? Barbarius did you hear me?"

THE ALCHEMIST:
Bane and Meylon found the Nexus Point with little trouble. Lucky for them considering that just about everyone either gave the pair a wide berth, ran away or screamed in horror when the two approached. Meylon looked over at Bane beside her. Mounted on her horse she was close to being eye level with him. His muzzle was bared showing off his sharp teeth while his tongue lolled off to the side slick with moisture. Saliva dripped from the wet tongue in little streams.
"What in darkness are you doing? Your scaring everyone!" she scolded.
Bane quickly closed his jaw and looked wounded. "Its hot. I have to pant to cool off. My people don't sweat like some races."
"Well...keep it to a minimum alright? At least while in town." Meylon rolled her eyes. "This must be the place. The two walked inside and were shocked to see the interior was much larger then the outside. Objects lay everywhere covering every surface of the huge front room. Before they could get a good look a huge troll came shambling up to them. The brute seemed to size up Bane. He opened his mouth as if to speak but closed it again and seemed to ponder what to say. Looking down at the elf he finally spoke. "He here to cause trouble?" the troll asked while pointing at Bane with a thumb.
"No. Probably not. Though I should warn you I don't like trolls very much." Meylon spit out through clenched teeth.
The troll was taken aback not knowing whom to be more worried about. "Uhh, what you need?" he asked both adventurers.

In his best southern Bane spoke softly, "we are here to see the alchemist." Bane threw back his hood to reveil his entire head. "This is very important."

THE ALCHEMIST:
The troll puffs up at this request as if remembering his job. "Gardrax the Great sees people by appointment only." The huge monster crosses his arms and looks defiant.
Bane stole a glance at the elf maiden but, to his dismay looked on the verge of losing her composure. her arms were ramrod straight and her delicate fingers opened and closed into fists. It looked like it was up to Bane to deal with the Troll. At least they saw eye to eye he mused.

"YEAH, I HEAR YA! Barbarius barks," WHAT?"

THE ALCHEMIST:
Bane figured that Meylon might actually want to fight with the troll. She might even win but Bane also figured that they would never get to see the alchemist that way. With the obvious powerful forces at work here, this must constitute an emergency.
Puffing out his own chest, Bane dropped his voice and in a deep voice he spoke softly in his best Southern, "You don't seem to understand. This is of the utmost urgency. Tell your master that we are on business of the cosmic knights and require his assistance. If he sends us away then we will leave."

THE INN:
"Are you all right my good fellow? You seem distracted?" Sunny commented but the look Barbarius gave him made him decide now was not the time to press the issue. He diplomatically placed a tall tankard of ale in front of the dwarf and continued as if he never asked the question.
"As I was saying these good folk here are my followers. They will aid us in our new quest. The short stocky fellow is my squire Sir Carrius. He's been with me now for a year.
Carrius looked to Barbarius to be old for a squire as humans went. He was a decade older then Sunny at the very least with a dark brown complexion, dark hair and dark eyes. He was armed with a short sword and shield and decked out in full chain mail. He had a grim look about him.
"The High elf is Selinorr the Seer a wizard of Light." An elf was an elf to Barbarius all looking alike and what have you.
"The Lady is Marrissa. She is a bard and follows me in order to compose a song of my deeds." Sunny continued. Lady Marrissa was a calmly human with short cropped brown hair and brown eyes. She wouldn't stand out in a crowd and looked almost mannish in her combat leather jerkin and britches. She had a flimsy looking rapier on her side of questionable quality though her mandolin looked well crafted though probably by an elf.
"Bosh IronBreaker here." Sunny pointed to a dwarf. "is a mercenary." Barbarius nodded to the youngling. Boshes beard was only shoulder length and still fully black. He couldn't be more then three decades old thought Barbarius and probably not very skilled. His hammer was well made though and he wore a suit of half plate that was most likely a family heirloom. Barbarius could tell that it didn't quite fit him properly.
"Last we have our torch bearer Miguel the halfling." Sunny finished. The halfling looked as bright eyed and eager as any halfling before they died horribly from taking on a challenge they couldn't possibly overcome.

THE ALCHEMIST:
The troll seemed to think it over. "Sure I'll tell him, though I must warn you that the last person to come in here demanding he see Gardrax for an emergency died very painfully when it was deemed not so important to my Master. I'll understand if you slink out of here when my back is turned."
The troll did in fact promptly turn his back on the duo and head off up a flight of stairs and quickly disappeared down a hall way. Bane glanced at Meylon relieved to see her visibly more at ease. "Trolls massacred my...family." she said softly without looking up.

THE ALCHEMIST:
Laying a paw on her shoulder, Bane spoke softly, "Aye, trolls are terrible creatures and I'm sorry for pain that you bare, but this one seems to be different from others. He's seems to be neither a pet nor a slave, just look at the freedom he has. He could leave at anytime but instead chooses to stay. This one seems almost civilized. When we finish with this Gardax, i think we will both feel better after we leave. And please let us not mention the book at first. Let's make sure he is someone we can trust first, okay?"

Barbarius smiles once he recieves his tankard of ale. He takes a rather long and full swig and wipes his mouth. Barbarius looks over to the dwarf," IronBreaker!" Barbarius announces," Where do your family protect?" Barbarius knows it may not be best to address the dwarf at all, due to his dishonor, but old habits die hard and out of respect for his people he feels the need to connect in any way.
