Einhard and his companions entered the border town of Garrotten by the South-West. It was Einhard's first tour of Timiro since being deigned a Paladin by the Church of Light. He picked the town as his destination from rumors and tales that told of many dangers located in the area. He was particularly interested in all the bandit activity. While bandit hunting was usually left for Paladins of the Realm, soldiers and even mercenaries, Einhard was advised by the church to right wrongs as he chose until the Lord showed otherwise.
Dismounting to give Daring a cool down after riding for twenty miles, Friedrick offered to take the horses reins with his own but, Einhard politely refused. "Could we stop for a bit to eat Sire?" this from Tidbit, Einhard's newest follower. "We must tend to the horses first Master Tumbler." Friedrick announced for his Lord, already knowing the answer. The fourth member of the group 'Gray' pointed at a two story, walled in building down the road, just past the castle. "Yes, I do believe that is an Inn, Gray." Friedrick commented. "Good eye. We can feed the horses and ourselves at the same time. Excellent suggestion! What say you Mi'lord?"
Just ahead of the rest, Einhard grinned to himself. When it was apparent weeks ago that Gray made for a terrible conversationalist, Friedrick began speaking for him as if he knew exactly what the quiet bowman was thinking. The disturbing thing was Friedrick was often correct in his assumptions. Gray never complained and often grunted or nodded an affirmative in response. Einhard was hungry and Daring did need to be groomed. Einhard would also have to pay respects to the local govorner or Baron or other titled ruler of this town. It was only proper.

Einhard looked at the large, two story building. This was it. His time to face the evils of this world and vanquish it. Einhard breathes in deep.
Tidbit! Einhard calls Go ahead of us and announce us. Einhard hands his entire purse of 100 Gold Crowns into the little gnome's hands. Get us a room and stables for the horses. As Tidbit runs off, Einhard strokes Daring's mane. His handsome horse Daring, They have come far. He pets and loves his horse before guiding him slowly toward the Inn. Daring was worked hard to get here and now deserved his needed rest.
As he makes his way to the Inn, Einhard calls out to his friends, Come now, you two! We have a date with destiny! Einhard laughs. It's a deep laugh, deep from his belly.

When the three men enter the Inns outer gate there is a human boy waiting for them. "I'm Drin the stableboy your lordships. Shall I take your mounts from here so you may go to the Inn directly or would you like to see the stalls? The gnome has already payed me for the service."
Friedrick steps between the boy and his master. "Mi'lord. Please allow me to attend the mounts with young Drin here. I'll be along shortly."
Einhard smiled at this as the 'young boy' Friedrick refered to couldn't have been more then a year his junior. As for the stables, the Paladin was torn. He really prefered to take care of Daring himself even though it really was a squires duty. Not to mention it appeared Tidbit had already payed the stable hand as well.

Of course Friedrick, but I must inspect the stalls first, Einhard turns to Drin Yes now, Drin, is it? I would like to see your stalls and I must ask, did Tidbit pay above and beyond for yon services?

The boy grinned. "Enough to ensure the best for your steeds your Lordship!" the boy began leading them inside the walled courtyard and over to the stable area. "I sweep out the stalls every day as well as after every occupant leaves. We have the finest hay but, your man the gnome gave enough for oats as well. I'll even oil your tack before any others if I have the time. Most days I do, but today is busy. I will try though. Honest!"
The party had reached the stables. It had twenty stalls and fifteen were occupied already. The stable smelled of horse as do all stables the world over, yet it was clean and no dung in site. The over-sized barn had all the normal trappings and they appeared to be in good order. Another boy of Friedrick's age was grooming a Southern gray mare. A jumper by the looks of her.

Einhard entered the busy tavern to find Tidbit and Gray at a fine table with a grand window. Both had mugs and Tidbit stood on his stool and waved to get the Paladin's attention. Walking over to them the smiling halfling filled him in. "I knew not what to order you mi'Lord but, tell me your preferred brew and I will make sure you never wait for drink again! We have a great room for as many nights as we have gold but, the proprietor was kind enough to inform me that men of your station could without a doubt get rooms in the castle for us all if you preferred. The local baron is reported to be a kind, hospitable lord who is loyal to the crown and supports the military with arms."
When Einhard's newest follower finished his informative speech the holy knight glanced sideways at Gray. The bowman had a very slight grin and nodded in affirmation of the tumblers words.

Please obtain me a nice hot tea, Tidbit. I will leave the flavor to your judgment. Einhard looks around taking in all he can of the place. Who was in here, the layout, exits, the staff, etc.

The Inn was booming. Rich, poor, middle class merchants, Elves, Dwarfs, Humans, Hobbits, even an occational gnome and orc could be seen dining, playing games, drinking, dancing, singing and making other merriments. It was a wide open, great room with stairs leading upto the second floor banister that encircled the great room so patrons could look down or up at others. the bed rooms were everywhere the eye wandered up there. The decore was of a Nobles hunting lodge with stuffed game heads mounted on the walls, antler chandeliers and rustic decore. Of course...the whole town could be considered rustic from a citymans point of view. Einhard's tea arrived and he found it to be robust and with a hint of citris.
"So mi'Lord. What may I ask brings us to this town?" The inquisitive Tidbit asked.

The Lord of Light. Einhard takes a quick sip of the tea and savors it's taste and aroma, thinking deeply. He looks out the window. What does he see?

The window overlooked the courtyard. A few 'hands' walked this way and that going about their chores. Einhard noticed a squad of Timirian soldiers enter the outer gate and approach the Inn.

"Certainly Mi'lord." The tumbler tosses the coin purse back to Einhard. it feels lighter but, not unexpectently so.
As the Soldiers aproached the Inn, the Squad leader made hand motions taught to all militery personel. (two left, two right, two with me). They were on a mission. The leader and two others entered the Inn through the front door. Einhard assumed the others were circeling the building. Maybe covering other exits, or maybe just to check some of the out buildings. The Leader, a Sergeant by the rank insignia shoulder patch, scanned the Inn with his eyes. A commoner walked up to him and spoke in a low voice too quiet to hear from this side of the main room. Seconds later when the commoner left, the three soldiers began crossing the room slowly, hands on weapons. The Sergeant appeared to be looking at Einhard or maybe someone else at his table.

The Sergeant seems distracted by Einhard's sudden intrest in him. A split second of confusion crossed his face before he yelled, "MOVE!" but, it was to late. Einhard looked to his left where the Soldier's eyes were now focused. Just behind where the Paladin was sitting was a table with three men and a woman eating a meal. In the time it took Einhard to stand and interupt the Sergeant two of the men began to run away in different directions. The third man now held the lady by her hair with one hand and a long dagger to her throat. The Sergeant seemed out of his element at this point. "Take it easy." he commanded while brandishing his sword.
Turning his body to face the obvious criminal Einhard could see his fellow companions. Tidbit was actually on the table facing the bandit with murderous eyes and clenched fists. Gray was still seated, sipping his tea with one hand. His other was under the table out of sight. His gaze was on Einhard, one eye blow cocked questioningly.
