To Banes eyes, Barbarius looked to be a whirling, chopping, thrusting dwarven God of death. Blood was spraying everywhere from every direction as the dwarf laughed and contiunued to battle unseen foes. The Wolfen Ranger soon had his own problems however. He heard a shifting sound of a humanoids feet upon the ground to his left and smelled the scent of...bears? envelope him. Then he heard the panting as well.
From Barbarius' point of view he was under assault by waves of bear like humanoids only a foot or so taller then himself. They wore primitive bone armor and wielded crude clubs and spears. Even up close they appeared shadowy and without detail. In his zeal to attack this new and unfamilier foe he twisted his ankle on a loose stone (critical miss 1, sprained ankle, -2 hp, -4 spd, -6 dodge). After that he just let them come to him cutting with his axe and blocking the crude attacks as they came.

Bane figured that he might not be able to hit an enemy that he couldn't see, but since he knew that they were about Barbarius' height, he could mount enough of a defense to deter an attack.
With his polearm, Bane makes wide swinging motions envisioning where Barb's head might be. This thought made Bane smile a little.

Barbarius saw three of the teddy bears go down by his axe. All three to heavily wounded to continue fighting yet none had died. One of them had given the slayer a glancing blow with a club that he shrugged off (6 damage after successful roll) A fourth came at Barbarius with a stone hammer. The dwarf tried to parry but his ankle gave way. Lucky for the slayer this off set his balance to fall away from the club again reducing the blows sting. (damage 8 after roll).
Bane twirled his pole-arm simultaneously blocking incoming attacks and managing to hit some of his unseen opponents with the unorthodox move.

The wolfen saw for the first time two of his attackers materialize. Both had taken multiple hits from his pole axe and lay dismembered on the ground. They looked for all the world like humanoid bears though not like the bear men of the North. These were only five feet high and looked savage. He could sense at least one more bugbear on the outskirts of his range. Then it too materialized. The Rangers foe looked cunning but before Bane could attack the bugbear metamrphasized into a full sized brown bear. Standing 7 feet tall it was quite impressive. Or at least would have been if Bane wasn't 3 feet taller then the bear was. The bear came at Bane in a rush.
Barbarius stood back as his apponent did the same. Out of the initial ten bugbears three now lay dieing at his feet and another two at Bane's. The dwarf and Wolf faced one bugbear each as the remaining 3 ran away.

The bugbear and Barbarius circled eachother and charged in simultainiously. The slayers attacks was so swift it left the ememy on the ground in four pieces. Barbarius suffered not a scratch.
Banes battle was just as short and just as decisive. His pole axe sliced and choped with grim efficiency. By the time the Brown bear staggered passed the wolfen ranger it was already dead. The body just hadn't realised it. It finally came to a halt and fell apart, tumbling to the ground.
Marrissa staggered to her feet woozy from the blow to the head. Wha? what wure thoze?" she said with a slight slur.

Barbarius runs over to her and looks at her head. He's almost afraid to touch her," You alright, babe?"

Bane scanned the area. There might be other of these invisible things running around. He took a deep breath and listened for an extra set of feet moving around. Once he was sure everything was okay, he turned to Barbarius, "if she's strong enough to walk, we need to get moving."

"Imb fyne. Letz go." Marrissa added trying to shake off the fuzzy feeling and almost falling because of the sudden movement. Both the Wolfen and Slayer had seen enough head trauma to know a concussion when they saw one.

Barbarius helps Marrissa along and looks at Bane. He looks worried," Come on baby, let's go, but takeit easy."

The three heroes continue on their journey with Bane leading the way as before. Travel is a little slower do to Marrissa's wound but, they were still able to make good time now that the grass was at a manageable hieght.

After Marrissa stumbled twice the two men were able to convince the bard to take a swig of her own healing egg. Sure enough her head seemed to clear and her footing was much more stable. The Wolfen ranger continued to make his best estimates to track and hopefully catch up with the other party members. The edge of the mountains where the Bloody Gash or Devil's Mark was to be found began to grow in size as they grew closer. Soon Bane smelled death on the wind mixed with the new found sent of bugbears. The group was marching almost directly into the wind so it was only a matter of time before they ran into what lay ahead. The veteran woodsman could easily divert the trio's current path to avoid it but, that would add time onto the journey and they may overshoot the others. What risk was greater? he mused.

Bane slowed and when Barbarius was along side, Bane stopped and took a knee so to keep his voice low. "I smell more of those bugbear creatures' stink on the air. You can obviously still see them when they are not visible to rest of us. Given our last encounter, " Bane paused and looked to Marrissa, then back to Barbarius, "do you want to keep moving this way, or should we try to avoid them? The direct route will save time and we should be able to meet the rest of the group as planned, but further harm may befall Marrissa. Diverting might prevent trouble but could cost us time with finding the others. I will leave it to you, but either choice, I will need you to watch for possible invisible ambushes."

Barbarius nods his head in acknowledgment and moves back toward Marrissa. He reaches into his belt and pulls out a small vial of blue liquid. " Here babe, drink this," Barbarius takes the top off and hands his potion of Regeneration to Marrissa," We are pushing forward and some more of them Bugbears are up ahead. Now, if we keep going forward, we stay on course. If we go around, we may just miss the party. You think you up fer some more o' them Bugbears? How you feel?" Barbarius takes a quick scan of the area around them and pulls out his egg. He takes a hit off the egg to heal himself.

Marrissa took the potion. "Thank you but I feel much better. I'll drink it at the first sign of danger." She pulled out her rapier and made some practice swings.
The trio progressed slowly with Barbarious keeping a sharp eye out for ambushes. The group soon learned that the danger was a false alarm. Barbarious was the first to see the bugbears. About a dozen of them. All dead. When he assured the others the area was safe they aproached the grizzly scene. Thirteen bugbears lay scattered about obviously killed recently and in numerous ways. Some where cut, some burned and others beaten with blunt instruments. It was grusome and precise. The killing strokes were clean and accurate. Very professional. The reason became apparent when Marrissa discovered a grave near by and cried out in alarm. A short sword was at the graves head. Marrissa recognized the weapon as the groups, halfling, torch bearer, Miguel.
