Fire Brand had been terrorizing the country side for months now. Razing villages, slaughtering peasents and looting towns. His band was growing so large that some people thought he may be involved with the recent Ogre invasion. Whatever his motives he needed to be stopped. Lord Paladin Einhard was the man willing to take him on.

Einhard woke before dawn and suited up. He stood in the darkness of his room and took in the sight, before he continued. He made a point of observing all who may have shared the room with him deciding whether he should wake them or just begin without them.

On the floor blocking the door way was Friedrick his squire. He was just a boy really, not unlike Einhard himself. Friedrick had commented the previous night that he would watch over the Paladin while he slept for one never knew how safe an Inn really was. By laying at the door he assured no one could enter unannounced. 'Clever kid.' Einhard mused. The others slept in the room adjoining this one.

Einhard quietly walked over to Friedrick. He tapped him gently on the shoulder. Wake up Friedrick. We have business to attend before we serve the others. Einhard spoke in a loud whisper.

The squire rose wordlessly and gathered the belongings. "Ready mi' Lord.

Einhard takes the lead and leaves the inn. As he leaves he approaches whom ever is tending the inn and makes arrangements for a modest breakfast with plenty of fruit, breads, cheeses and meats. He expects to return in a half hour so he requests the feast for four would be ready in one hour. He places ten Gold Crowns before the attendant.
With that done he leaves with Friedrick and marches over to the guard station. He hopes Sergeant Maldoon is in, but realizes at this time someone in his position is probably sleeping. Upon reaching the station Einhard addresses the first guard he sees. Good morn. Is Sergeant Maldoon available?

"Well he's off duty till 0800, but I could fetch him if you need me to my Lord. Is there anything I may assist you with?" The guard asks.

"Well it's suspected that his gang are holed up somewhere to the North over the river. We have scouts out looking, but so far no luck finding the hideout. 'bout the only way to get there for sure I guess would be to follow them. Maybe after a raid or if you could trail a lone member without being seen. You could try hiring a tracker perhaps."

Dunluk, very good. You have been much help. Is there anything written about Firebrand's activities that you could provide me as I begin my search?

"Written? Ah, well the constable keeps a record of any raids or attacks believed to be FireBrand's work. They also have a list and sketches of his lieutenants. I know the bandits gang was last estimated to be between 50-60 strong. Though they never travel in one group, preferring to break up into smaller bands as to attack more targets at the same time."

Are those records available or must I see the Constable for these?

"We get a scribed copy of all the Constables reports and such here at the castle for the Baron and another for the Captain of the Guard. Captain Hilvinar leaves his in the barracks for easy access for all of us. I could show them to you if you wish. Though I can't let them leave the castle you understand."
