Einhard reaches inside and unbolts the door. He pushes away the debris and looks within.

The opened door revealed a small chair and bench with meager cutlery and dishes upon it. Einhard had been in enough military installations to know a dungeon when he saw one. Manacles hung from rings in the ceiling and at the far end of the short hall way was two sets of iron bar gates. A torch sputtered in a wall sconce and a glint of brass could be seen next to it. Not a sound could be heard except for the flames licking the air.

Einhard turns to the group. Follow me. Friedrick, up here with me. Gray, Mason, take the back. Tidbit, stay in the center. With this Einhard enters. He walks over to the gate and checks it. Seeing if it's locked and shaking it to see how strong it is.

The gate appears locked, but Friedrick with weapon drawn finds a key on a hook and hands it to his lord.

Einhard finds the correct key and opens the gate. With subtlety not his strong point, Einhard let's it go as it may and moves forward, with hopefully the same order as before.

The group dutifully follows the Paladin. Einhard hears someone behind him lift the torch from it's sconce providing light for the group. The passageway continues for a hundred feet or so on a slight decline. The air begins to get cooler. A welcome respite from the hot spring air outside. When the passage ends it ends in a three way junction. Left and right are short side passages that lead to identical wide set stairways heading deeper into the earth. Ahead appears to be an alcove or arched tunnel. The torch isn't illuminating it enough to discern any details yet.

Einhard moves forward for a look within.

The group fans out a bit in the intersection while Einhard looks forward. As the torch light gets closer it reveals a wooden door within the arch. Muffled voices can be heard from the other side.

Einhard draws his sword, holds it ready for combat and kicks open the door. Firebrand!

The unlocked door creaks and groans on it's hinges and then rebounds back on the Paladin for it opened outward. Avoiding the door easily Einhard bounds inside sword at the ready, FireBrand! he calls out.
The first thing the knight notices is that he has steped out onto a small, two person balcony overlooking a great room 40 feet below. It appears to be a dining hall with two visible doorways on the far wall, and is illuminated by 3 massive chandeliers. There is a long dining table with dozens of chairs around it. A score of bandits are scattered about the room. Some are slow to react and others are drawing weapons. Still others are just looking around trying to figure out where the shout came from. One figure stands out amongst the others. A 14 foot giant with red skin wearing bronze half plate.
All of this the Paladin takes in at a glance for his training has given him excellent perception. His acute senses also pick up movement from above...

Einhard dodges reflexively as the spiked iron ball twice the size of his fist swings down from the ceiling on a chain. Not giving it a second thought he stands slightly to the side as not to get hit in the back on it's return arc. The Giant is muscular and sports raven black, handlebar mustache and his long hair is in a topknot. Barking orders many of the bandits head to two different sections of the wall beneath Einhard just out of sight. It doesn't take a mathematician to realize they are headed to doors or passages that must lead to the two sets of stairs at the intersection. The paladin's little band would soon be surrounded.
"I think you made a mistake little man!" The giant booms looking at Einhard while hefting a huge war axe and swinging it menacingly.

Looking the giant squarely in the eyes, What's your name?

Then there is no mistake! It is time that you pay for your crimes, Firebrand! With this, Einhard faces the stairs to his left and begins to march down, cutting anyone who gets in his way.

Bandits of every race were racing up both sets of steps. Einhard marches down the left side prepared for battle. Behind him he could hear Friedrick taking charge. "To me! To me! Down the right!"
"..but Einhard..." this from tidbit.
"doesn't need our help!" his squire finished for him. and with that battle was ensued. Einhard smiled.
